JetBlue TrueBlue - more destinations out of IAD?View Full Version : more destinations out of IAD? haddon90 Feb 11, 09, 11:33 am does b6 have any plans for more destinations out of IAD? didn't they used to have an IAD-SAN flight? that four hour layover in JFK isn't that appealing! jetBlue Feb 11, 09, 1:01 pm IAD is a tough airport to expand from for any airline, the system just doesnt allow for mass expansion. That said, UAL has a large enough presence in IAD that you could just hitch a ride with them no? FlightAware is showing 2 UAL flights one departing at 10:30 the other around 12:50. haddon90 Feb 11, 09, 2:27 pm i fly UA extensively. that said, i've been impressed with B6 and would like to fly them more. but the connection times through JFK are awful. sbm12 Feb 11, 09, 3:04 pm Not specific to the IAD hub, but jetBlue is shifting away from transcons in general to more profitable routes. I would not expect to see too many new transcons coming online this year, other than the previously announced, canceled and reannounced LAX-JFK/BOS flights. haddon90 Feb 11, 09, 3:40 pm true, but JFK already has a bunch of transcons. N830MH Feb 11, 09, 7:43 pm i fly UA extensively. that said, i've been impressed with B6 and would like to fly them more. but the connection times through JFK are awful. Yes, this is reason why there is problems bad connection the flight at JFK. So I think B6 need to be more improvable better on-time performance. Because I didn't want to hear another delayed. I think those days should be getting better for the future. I don't want you take on B6 for a long time. I knows DL is much better to have more convenient for you. It was best on-time performance but, there is no major delays due to congestions. N830MH Feb 11, 09, 7:45 pm true, but JFK already has a bunch of transcons. Exactly! it was lot of transcon flight where its coming from JFK-SAN/SFO/LAX/SMF/OAK/LAS/PHX/PDX/SEA. Mimi Imferst Feb 11, 09, 9:09 pm didn't they used to have an IAD-SAN flight? Yes, I believe there was a LAS, and more recently, a BUR as well. If oil stays low for the next while I wouldn't be surprised to see them come back. N830MH Feb 11, 09, 11:57 pm Yes, I believe there was a LAS, and more recently, a BUR as well. If oil stays low for the next while I wouldn't be surprised to see them come back. Yeah, I think its would be great to bring more former route back. I'm sure B6 will looking for LAS-SAN/BUR/FLL/PHX. I can see more predictable new route for PHX-FLL if they will be tough competitive with US. I'll guarantee that B6 will considers service from FLL-LAS/PHX/LAX/SAN/SEA. If they have enough more range for reachable into SEA due to headwinds over transcon flight. aaron1262 Feb 12, 09, 10:02 am Yeah, I think its would be great to bring more former route back. I don't think that the 320 has the range to make it all the way to FLL with a full load. sbm12 Feb 12, 09, 11:34 am true, but JFK already has a bunch of transcons. But they are trimming them out of the schedule and focusing on the shorter but hopefully more profitable Caribbean market flights. maybe a SEA-AUS-FLL would probably be doable. I don't think that the 320 has the range to make it all the way to FLL with a full load. Eastbound would be less of an issue. It is the FLL-SEA that has no chance. Maybe they could run it as a triangle with a nonstop eastbound and the stop going back to SEA? But I still wouldn't expect to see it. JetBlueFA Feb 12, 09, 12:09 pm Transcon flying just isn't what it use to be. We use to be able to make quite a bit of money flying those routes but it is almost impossible to now and that is why we've pulled down quite a bit of capacity on the transcon flying. I think the only reason you are seeing a little increase is because the folks in FSC don't like VX and what to pour the hurt on. Also fares have started to come up and stay up. That and we have started to see some extra revenue potential in the form of EML, Movies, and P&B sets. Now throw in the BOB and we might start to make some money on the transcon flights. Whether this trend continues is still in the air. The Caribbean market has turned into our bread and butter. Flights are packed and fares are decent. We've had a great response with the new cities, SXM, SJO, BOG, CUN, MBJ. As well as the new connections to NAS, CUN, BDA from Florida. Right now any further expansion will be focused in the Caribbean. keepreosellinas Feb 12, 09, 3:08 pm I think that IAD-SAN has the potential to return when the economy comes back, but only under the condition that oil remains at a fair price (which I personally find unlikely). IAD-SAN was generally a marginal performer - it was never as profitable as the JFK-SAN flights, or even the IAD-OAK/LGB flights. However, it was definitely a better performer than IAD-LAS (especially after WN entered the market). On that note, I hear that the new IAD-RSW flights are doing exceptionally well. IAD-PBI, while not performing as well as RSW, is also holding its own. I would expect them to come back next winter. Hopefully IAD will see some non-Florida growth from B6 sometime soon. IAD - AUS & ORD would be nice. N830MH Feb 13, 09, 12:44 pm IAD - AUS & ORD would be nice. I agree. It would be great to bring more potentially new route from IAD. |
