I've been on here a few times asking about ways to redeem my miles, but still have never spent any and my plans have changed massively again. I'm hoping you guys haven't lost patience with me yet :o as I ask for advice yet again...

I've got 92k miles right now, but 30k of them are earmarked for Z2-Z10 in J to visit my gf -- she just got a job for 1yr in Islamabad. Though I may pay to go direct with PIA (opinions welcome!). I intend to buy 24k, and the credit card and estore help with smaller top-ups as required. So that would leave me with almost exactly 87500 to spend.

I want/need to visit SYD in late June, and I don't have time to stop anywhere on the way -- but I'd like two or three stopovers on the way home. So basically I'm scouting for route/airline/city suggestions. I've never flown in anything but Y on any of the *A carriers, and I'm happy to start and/or finish in Z2 if it helps. In Asia I've been to SIN, HKG, NRT and SGN before, and new places (especially passport stamps) trump old.

So, on the assumption that my balance is 87500 it looks to me like my best bet is Z1-Z9 in F for 50k, then Z9-Z8 and Z8-Z2 for a combined 37500 in J. Is this right? And if so, what airlines, routes and places do people recommend?

SQ would be the obvious choice for me. If you do LHR-SIN-SYD on the 744s then unfortunately the connection time is rather long in SIN (10hrs or so). Travelling via FRA will enable you to have a 3hr connection in SIN if you take SQ25/SQ219 and you arrive the following evening instead of 2 days later. You could buy a cheap LH one-way fare to FRA and save £30 on APD. I'm thinking of doing this myself but finding availability for my preferred dates in First Class is a little tricky.

I don't do TG so I won't recommend them. Transiting SIN is so much more pleasant than BKK anyway.

Coming back you can fly directly home for 37,500 miles or do a combination of Z9-Z8 and Z8-Z2 as you say for the same mileage requirement. What about SYD-AKL (stopover if you want)-HKG and then HKG-LHR-Z2 on Air New Zealand?

erm... isn't it 50,000 miles!? (edit: ah, you mean with adding cash for a business class ticket, right)

what about asiana
we used them in november
lovely food great service lhr-icn-syd invovles a couple of hours stopover in seoul(nice lounge with showers and some little private cabins) very nice airport (smoking facilities available airside if you need them)
only disadvantage is the no f from lhr (but there is from fra ) and the business seats slope slightly but were very comfortable
