What is the relationship between Radisson, Radisson Edwardian and Radisson SAS? The web site of Radisson SAS tells me it is owned by Radizon with an address in Belgium, but the Radisson site states it is a private American company, part of the Carlson group, with its head office in Minneapolis.
Is the SAS bit something to do with the airline of the same name?

Changing names when majority related to shares / stakes shift can be too confusing. These brands have established themselves, no need to change names.
Radisson, Radisson SAS etc. have been established in relation to each other, yet with different business concepts and brand identities suitable for the targeted markets, or so.
Today it appears that the Carlson Group is the head holding company with a diverse holding structure.

The Rezidor Hotel group holds all EMEA rights for all Carlson Brands and is I believe currently around 43% held by Carlson Group of the United states. It started as SAS International Hotels and had ties to the origional design hotel in Copenhagen from 1960. Edwardian Hotels were aquired by SIH and rebranded with the Radisson name.
They had already moved to Brussels years prior to the successful co-branding in 1994 that gave SAS hotels better positining on the global distribution systems. The current shift is a result of Scandinavian Airlines selling all shares at the end of 2006 and the company is just now re-branding to Radisson BLU.
The re-branding was first carried out in Zurich, where I was a guest last week. Great hotel. They still upgraded me as SK EBG to business class room (but told it may be the last time as the seperation is soon finalized) which now has the added feature of complementary (only the non-alcoholic) mini-bar along with the previous nespresso machines, comp breakfast and bathrobe and late check-out.
