I would like a suggestion for a webcam that can monitor a small whiteboard (approx 20x25"). I tried a Lifecam 1000 I had lying around, but the resolution is too low to make out the text.

Has anyone tried anything like this? I tried to google, but all hits were more sofisticated (not to mention that the term webcam generates unwanted hits).

You'll do much better if you stay away from "webcams" and look at getting a basic video camera with video-out hooked to a video capture card.

There are hundreds of them on eBay, but something like this:

Connected to something like this:

A tripod is helpful too.

I've used Axis network cams (http://www.axis.com/) for monitoring remote work areas. They were one of the first companies in that field, and their products are rock-solid IMO. I haven't bought one lately, so I don't have a model recommendation. There are many new models to choose from since my last purchase.
