Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Too late to find a cheap deal Australia to Europe?

I'd like to go at the end of May, I realize its start of busy travel season to Europe so I'm wondering if I should book now at about $2000 AUD or wait closer to the date of travel? My ideal route is MEL/SYD-CDG but I'm sure I could find an LLC from London or anywhere else in Western Europe to get to France.
I remember reading round the world stories on LLC's... which ones could I attempt to do this on since I'm not trying to get any mileage out of this deal, just trying to get there as cheap as possible.
thanks,

$2k is a pretty decent price IMO. If your really trying to save then I guess you could take a Jet* flight to somewhere in Asia where tickets are probably cheaper. I don't know how much this will end up costing though or whether the savings are worth it.
AFAIK to get to Europe on an LLC was only possible while Oasis was in business.

A$2k seems reasonable, depending on the airline. It may get a little cheaper, but if you find some good flights now that suit you for that price, I would lock it in. Looking at bestflights.com.au, Cathay Pacific might suit your needs (MEL-HKG-CDG). Also Emirates, Etihad and Thai are about the same price.

I'm still waiting for Air Asia X to start flying to London from Aussie... but at this point flying to KUL and connection to LON is almost for than $2k... better off flying Etihad.

was this on Singapore?
strangely enough while I was MR'n I helped a friend book to LHR, and got them the upperdeck economy seats we had last year, awesome experience
and I thought their $1431 fare was excellent.
