I did a search of the forum and found nothing (actually even google did not yield substantive answers), so here goes!

I may have water (moisture) damage to my 8830 as indicated by the phone screen dying first, followed by refusal to charge...

I am not looking to get a free replacement or anything.

I want to find out if there is any chance of recovering the information on the phone (an initial glitch prevented me from backing up the phone for a while, hence the issue).

I would appreciate it if someone can throw some light on this.

Thanks in advance.

In regards to recovering the data, your best bet is to try and recover the phone.

If you haven't already take the battery out. If you don't want to buy a new phone, a new battery may be the fix, typically the moisture causes the battery to short, hence the lack of charge. On some BB specific websites they mention placing the phone in a bag of rice as it will absorb the moisture(similar to rice in salt shakers).

Good luck and let us know.

Don't start with the new battery. Start by popping out the old battery and plugging the phone into the BBDM. Hopefully you can get your info. If you can't, you're in trouble.
