I am flying allegiant air from GSP to Sanford/Orlando and am unfamiliar with this airport. I have made a car rental res via National - is the lot on site?
anything else I should know about this airport?
TIA
Not sure about National, but it is a small airport. According to their web site (http://www.orlandosanfordairport.com/rental.asp), National is "on-site". It is used mostly by Allegiant and charter flights from Europe. It is about 30 miles north of Orlando, and around 45 from the tourist attractions, if that is your destination. If so, the easiest route is the SR 417 toll road, which will cost somewhere around $5.00 for the trip. Otherwise you can take I-4 through Orlando, but rush hour traffic can be a real pain.

If you take SR417, be prepared with some quarters. If that is the road I am remembering, they don't do tickets, and I believe exact change is required. Went through there last year, and luckily I had some in my computer bag.

You are correct that you will pass through multiple toll plazas. While many of the on and off ramps are exact change only, all of non-ramp plazas will have attended change/receipt lanes that will take bills and provide change.

I live in the area. My mother in law was able to rent a car (from MCO - not SFB) that she was able to pay a few bucks a day or a flat weekly rate and get the tolls throughout the state included. There are tons of toll roads in the Orlando area - and it was well worth her money - if for no other reason - you dont have to stop every 15 miles and pay a toll (and wait in line).
if you have that option - grab it.
BTW - Allegient from GSP to SFB is the best and cheapest way to fly to the orlando area from GSP. If you flew into MCO - you would pay at least 4 times what you paid. So, an hour of extra time is really worth it...plus you dont have to connect...which is a real bonus!

How do you get a car rental with all tolls included?
Which company, rate code, etc? Thanks.

I've never heard of tolls being included, but Avis and probably others use PlatePass (https://www.platepass.com/tollRoads/PlatePass%20Florida%20FAQs.html). For a daily fee, in addition to any tolls you pass through, you can use the SunPass or EasyPass lanes.

Hi. It is Dollar. It is a special with American Express. AX13 rate code I think. However, the rate out of Sanford is always higher than a rate I can get with Alamo.

The rental car would be equipped with SunPass, it reads the device or barcode when you use the SunPass lanes. I hadn't heard of it on rentals but that would make sense. The tolls can add up if you are heavily using toll roads locally in the Orlando area or the Florida Turnpike during your stay.

Are there any public transportation options from SFB to MCO? Has anyone used the Prority Pass lounge at SFB...I believe their opening times are based on international flight departures...can anyone access it when traveling on Allegiant during an international flight departure? Or is it in a sterile international area? What are the amenities like?

I don't think there is any public transport that would work. You could search on shared shuttles, but that or taxi might be more expensive than just renting a car for the trip.
Not sure about the lounge, but it probably has very limited hours, since there are not very many flights in the international terminal.

So Allegiant leaves from a different terminal than the international departures? If so, I doubt PP members can even access the lounge even if it were open.

There are A and B terminals, but it is a small airport and they are not far from each other. I am pretty sure they are not connected airside. Domestic flights (primarily Allegiant) use B, intl uses A so if the lounge is airside on A, you can't get there. The B side has a small food court, a bar, and a shop or two.

There really hasnt been any commentary here on SFB lounge usage for Priority Pass so we look forward to anyone who choose to be the first lounge report! :)
