I'm investigating the possibilty of buying an unlocked iphone and using their service for trips abroad.

Ideally, I'd use their NEW service in conjunction with what I normally use... my Ekit/Passport and country specific PAYG sims....

It looks to me like they are offering some sort of WiFi subscription model more than anything else. I'm not sure that there is huge value in it. Or possibly I am misunderstanding what it is that they do. I'd say that $40/month is 4x what Boingo charges for their comparable product, so a LOT more digging would be necessary to determine the value of this option.

Oh, and there is the small issue of whether the iPhone is supported by their software.

My concern would be limited access points until this company gets better established. Just looking at a few cities in the US they provide limited WIFI coverage. :( Based upon your travel needs what is the coverage they provide to meet your needs?

Thanks for the feedback...
I checked Boingo's website. Their global plan is more expensive-USD$59 vs $40 for Defi....

Boingo's got a 2000 minute cap per month for their global plan and Defi's is unlimited.....

Both services will only work within wifi zones BUT Defi's plan seems to be more oriented to voice. I like the optional extra Access Numbers feature for incoming calls. (I think Vonage has this option as well?)

Defi's customer service says that Apple will be making an announcement "very soon" about compatibilty with iphone. Currently the service only works with Nokia E or N Series phones..or perhaps all S60 devices?!

Italy98...you are right about the limited access points....I'm off the beaten path often and Defi's hotspots look a bit slim compared to Boingo

As far as global coverage/access points are concerned, anyone know if there is there any unlimited access wifi service that's universally accepted as the best that's been around for more than just a few months?

Check T-Mobile. I know the are in the US and Europe, however, I don't know if they are one in the same company or if there is an International plan.

That's for a computer. If you are using just a WiFi enabled phone you can get Boingo service for $8/month (http://mobile.boingo.com/). No promises on their service levels, and one FTer who was recently in Tokyo said the coverage didn't work at all there, but it is definitely cheaper than $40/month.

Just returned from SRQ and Panera's nor Dunkin Donuts, both which offer free WiFI, are not listed on either of the two search engines. I would think that any company looking at growing a client base would include the free WiFi spots. :td::td:
