Starwood Preferred Guest - Trouble w/ Best Rate Guarantee?

Anyone else have trouble getting the rate changed on their reservation after receiving a confirmation that their claim was accepted? I was confirmed for a lower rate at Westin Excelsior Rome and forwarded my confirmation number as requested. I did change my reservation down to 4 days from 5 days but didn't think that would negate the claim. Haven't heard anything back at all.

Hi TRAVELBABE,
Welcome to the Flyertalk community.
I believe that the claim would be rejected even after initial approval due to the fact that the dates have been shortened/amended.
Rates might vary according to the number of days or different dates of the month. As such, once any changes are made to the approved BRG claim, the offer for lower rates would no longer be valid.
However, YMMV.

Thanks for the welcome and all the advice you guys provide. I kept e-mailing them and got the rate they promised even though I needed one less day on my reservation. I love SPG!

Glad this worked out for you. Another +1 for SPG. But as Lurker points out, you changed the original agreed to terms for the BRG, so really they didn't have to honor the lower price. Imagine your reaction if you had made a change just prior to arrival and during check-in the agent says they cannot honor the BRG.
Luckully it turned out well. ^

Yes, changing the original reservation does negate a previously-approved BRG claim. If a guest were to try this, they normally would be advised to fill out a new claim as they are date and time sensitive.
But, it looks like someone on our end was not aware of that caveat. ;)
