Travel Technology - How do I get rid of a dial-up connection set-up? Interfering w/ my hi-speed

Hi all. When I visited my sister over the holidays, the only way to connect to the internet was via dial-up (and even then it was only about 14K!). She's a park ranger in the middle of nowhere, hence the dial-up.

I'm back home & have FIOS. If I'm on wireless sometimes the dial-up connection pops up in the middle of the screen & tosses me offline. I click on tools & then unclick the work offline & I'm instantly online again. But it's annoying.

But if I'm in the home office & want to connect to the router via the ethernet cable, I get the stoo-pid dial-up thing again & only if I turn it on wireless can I access the internet.

I want to delete the dial-up connection I set up so that I can eliminate the problem (I'll add it next time I visit her), but I haven't been able to figure out how to do that. If I right-click on the dial-up, it gives me connect, cancel, settings options but not delete.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but any help would be appreciated. This is getting quite annoying. Ironically enough, just after I posted this thread I got the dial-up tossing me offline again. Grrr.

Cheers.

Start - Control Panel - Network Connections.

Right click the dial up connection and choose Delete.

Duh - silly me. I had just gone to Network rather than Control Panel. Thanks!

Cheers.

If that doesn't work you may have to make one more change based on what you are running.

If it's happening in your browser if you are using Explorer, under the tools menu there is a connections menu. If always use dial up is checked or there is an entry in the dial up and VPN settings box, you will want to delete the dial up connection from that box too, or it may still try to use it.

Don't delete it. Disable it. That way you can use it again later.

I'd delete it only if Disabling does not fix the problem.

Are you running Vista or XP? if it's XP you don't have to touch the connection, you can go into internet options in the control pannel, and click never use a dial up connection. I think Vista is the same, but not 100% sure on that.
