Hi,
I am trying to book two tickets in first class LHR to BKK. When I phone up I am told only one seat is available. Should I book it and hope that another one is opened up later? Do they open up extra seats regularly or rarely? Any idea how long it might take them to do it?
Will it cost me a lot if I have to cancel the booking because a second seat never appears?
Thanks!

Book it now and the other should appear a day later..
If you cancel, then the same 25 quid applies.

How reliable is that advice though?
Surely it must depend on how many redemptions seats have already been booked?

In my experience one does not always appear a day later. Although one thing you can be alot more confident in thinkin is that more F award seats will open during the week before departure. If you buy a C award you will be able to upgrade to F during this week. ^

In my experience, not 100%

Yes, they only release 2 at a time and then they will look at the loads and decide whether to release any more. In my experience, this has been <10 days before travel.
LHR-BKK is usually pretty full to be honest so I can't imagine that they would release absolutely more than they have to.
My advice is to book 1xF and 1xC if available then upgrade the C seat if another is released.

Thanks. If we get one in C and one in F and a second F does not become available will we be able to downgrade the F seat to C, don't want to end up flying in seperate parts of the plane?
If C is full, you simply ask the person seated next to your partner if they want an upgrade to F. I've seen such a switch happen, and I really don't see why any solo traveler would object. No sane FT'er would ;)

Only if there's an award seat available in C.
You might be better off looking at transiting through TG's other european points of departure to get 2 seats in F (FRA, MXP, ZRH for example) if you don't want to take the chance.
But be careful, as TG have a nasty habit of showing award seats available even if the F cabin has 0 revenue seats available and the numpties at the call centre will try and book you on the flight.
If you do transit through Europe, look at F seats on LX out of ZRH as a second option.
