We are going to Barcelo La Jolla De Mismaloya (Puerto Vallarta) from Feb 11 - 18). It is an all inclusive south of Puerto Vallarta. From Trip Advisor and other travel sites, the reviews have been mixed - from great to horrible, but we have heard that some reviews are tainted for one reason or another. Has anyone actually been there, and what are some of the pros and cons? We got a fantastic rate, including airfare, from Travelocity, and we couldn't turn it down.

On a similar note, it seems like Montuzuma strikes tourists quite frequently in Mexico - we have heard that if you take antibotics throughout your visit, it will mitigate the symptoms. Has anyone actually done this?

Will write a TR when we get back.

It is far inferior to many other resorts in the area, but if the price was right, it's hard to complain. The main drawback is that there is not much of a beach there anymore. The pictures on their brochures and website are very out of date. Take some island excursions to find expanses of sand.

The price was something like $2,600 for the two of us, including airfare from Newark, NJ (EWR) to PVR, the all-inclusive hotel, transfers to and from the hotel from PVR, and trip insurance.

The Google Earth website shows lots of sand in front of the hotel - don't know the vintage of this though.

It has been several years since we stayed there but we really enjoyed it. The only drawback is the distance from PV - but taxis are so inexpensive that it should not be a problem (or the bus). Be sure to visit the "Night of the Iguana" movie set when your there - in fact - see the DVD before you go.
