There's been a LiveTV outage problem affecting most of the fleet; a fix for which is slowing working its way through all aircraft. I think it's more likely that your aircraft had a LTV outage than you experienced two flights during which no one mentioned the TVs being off to the FAs.

ETA: Unless, of course, you meant they forgot to turn them on initially, but then did upon being questioned/reminded about it. In which case... oops. :)

Mine go on right after I am done with my announcement. I stand right next to the pad just so I don't forget. Caphis is correct though, there has been some major TV issues. I think it had something to do with some up the updated software getting corrupted.

Yo man. A few more details would help. Like what phase of flight were you? I turn mine back on after I do my safety announcments and walk through but if the captain calls for me be in my seat, in my brace position, before I expect it (ie: short taxi out) I may just forget to flip the TV switch. Sooorrryyy.

You should hear how quick my safety announcemnts are during the playoffs though. LOL

Yo Vic - You could always remind them the next time they walk by or push that button they hate so much.

Please be advised that on some occasions when we activate the LiveTV system after demo or announcements it may APPEAR that the system is off, but in fact it is actually running. Often there is a glitch where our "Happy Jetting" welcome aboard video *thinks* it is playing when in actuality it is playing behind a frozen screen (usually a shot from Times on Air). This can run especially long on 2 hour plus flights where 3 JetBlue Features movies are previewing as well. As soon as the Welcome aboard video and previews complete you will see the tvs flip back on. This can take up to around five mins. Sounds confusing, it's even difficult to try and explain.

I've sent an email to the LiveTV folks explaining exactly what you just said. It all started when the new load when in with Channel 41 and the Times On Air programming. If you are on the PA when you turn the TV's to standy-by 9 times out of 10 it will freeze the TVs. The only way I avoid it is to put the TV's in stand-by, let them show the stand-by screen (Now the Spoil Yourself Screen), then get on the PA. If they are frozen on Channel 41 the only way to unfreeze them is to turn off the IFE rack in the flight deck of the 190 or turn off the TV's in the overhead of the 320 and then let them reset. A partial reset doesn't appear to work. The same goes for powering up the TV's. If the TV's don't run through their start up procedure before the PA is used it could black some TV's. I think it was a combination of the new load, DirecTV changing transponder codes, and then the corrupted data that lead to the problems with the TV's over the last month. I was on one 190 that had nearly 50 TV's out.

Sounds like it is time to stop turning of the TV's for the safety announcements.

I'm almost sure it's required that we don't have any distractions when we are doing the safety demonstration. People rarely pay attention as it is, until US landed in the Hudson. Since then i've noticed a lot more people looking at us as we do the demo.

there were three off duty FA's sitting directly behind me, two from US Air and one JetBlue employee... who asked the lead FA about the TV's and she quickly rushed forward sort of announcing in passing that "they just forgot to turn them on" no big deal, but not cool.

I know I could ask, but I could never get the FA's attention sitting by the window and I don't want to press the little button overhead to not be a bother. this happened on Flight #715 JFK-SJU on 1/23

on Flight #1735 SJU-SDQ on 1/25 the FA did not turn on the IFE at all, I understand it must remain off for the duration of the safety briefing, but at least turn the monitors completely off or select some JetBlue ad to freeze the TV's on.... I ended up spending the entire hour flight time staring at some dork, on the Times channel. again, no big deal but uncool.
