JAL Mileage Bank - JAL 2009 Summer Overview: JAL Express goes Int'l

The following are some of the planned changes for JAL 2009 Summer operation on international routes.

For the first time, JAL Express (JC) will begin operating international routes on behalf of JAL, namely:


Tokyo Narita - Hangzhou
Tokyo Narita - Nagoya
Osaka Kansai - Shanghai Pu Dong



Tokyo Narita - Bangkok
Overall frequency is 2 Daily. 3rd Daily, JL703/704 cancelled (from 18JAN09)

Tokyo Narita - Denpasar
Daily 767-300 replace 747-400 from 29MAR09

Tokyo Narita - Hangzhou
Daily 737-800 service to be operated by JAL Express (JC) crew, effective 08MAY09

Tokyo Narita - Paris
3 weekly JL415/416 operated in Summer 08, is not operating in 09 Summer.

My only experience flying JC was between KOJ-ITM and CTS-KIX. I am curious about the configurations, being that the domestic J seats are certainly better than Y seats, but I can't imagine they would justify the premium that JAL usually wants for this between Japan and China. The configuration should be the same. Only the flight crews and attendants are provided by JAL Express, similar to JAL/JALWays

I understand that's one of their cost saving measures. But exactly how does that lower their cost? They can save money by just changing the crew :confused:

Assuming JAL Express has lower cost base (less salary for the crews) than JAL, but similar to JALWays.

Just for us simpletons: If I fly JAL Express on the PVG - KIX - PVG route, then the seating, service concept and food and beverages should be the same or similar than for regular JAL flights?

It's exactly the same like current JAL-JALWays relationship.
