California - Suggest me on how to make Sonoma tour a grand one?

Hi, I am planning to take my family on a surprise visit to the Sonoma Valley for a wine tour. We will be spending a week in San Francisco and I would like all of us to visit a place which has nature in all its beauty. I have been to Sonoma Valley before and I loved it. But I am wondering how to make this surprise trip a really special one. Any ideas are welcome.

I just came back from 5 days in the area but to be honest I don't know how to respond to your post. And judging by the lack of other posts, I suspect others feel the same way. The difficulty is that we would need more information. You mention your family - does that include kids? Does that exclude wine tastings?

What time of year are you going? If you already know the physical beauty of the area, what else are you looking for - a super resort property, outstanding restaurants, additional scenic locations, the wild animal park?
