Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Sydney Gyms - short term memberships

I'm going to be in Sydney in a couple of weeks time, and wondered if anyone had any gym suggestions in or near the CBD (I know the University has a great gym, but it is a bit of a schlep)

The main requirement is that there are some exercise classes - I miss my Body Pump when I go away. Now, in New Zealand, that's dead easy - just head for Les Mills - but in Sydney I am guessing that means Fitness First or Livingwell? Any recommendations?

Specifically, do you know anywhere which offers very short term memberships - i.e. one week

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Have a look at the Health Club at No 1 Martin Place. Very nice gym with exercise classes right in the centre of the CBD. It is in a complex attached to the Westin Sydney, so it is a place that may have short term arrangements.

Similarly the Hilton in Sydney have a very large gym on the lower level of the hotel opening onto Pitt Street with exercise classes - again, it is worth trying to see if they have weekly or monthly arrangements.

You will find most gyms have a "10 visit pass". This may suit your needs.

Hi there KT74.

I'm the Marketing Director of Fitness First and I happened to pick up your thread on one of my alerts. We have several great clubs in the Sydney CBD and I would be happy give you a complimentary membership for the week.
You can check out the locations on Google Maps or www.fitnessfirst.com.au.

If your interested just let me know which club and I can arrange the membership. No catch.

St Martin's Gym is a bit weird - their weights/equipment room is not very big, and the machines are somewhat dated.

Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre in Utimo is a beautiful building, and has nice pools and a very good gym. Gym is pretty large, with plenty of weights and machines . Not sure about classes, but you can check the website. Location is within walking distance from Darling Harbor (it is opposite the Powerhouse museum). The building was the last design of Harry Seidler, one of the most famous Sydney architects who died in 2006.
