Question: Have a routing from BKK-BOM on TG and then BOM-DXB on AI, i am pretty sure Thai will be able to check my baggage through all the way to DXB, however, I'm a little hesitant on doing so since I've heard bad stories of bags in transit through BOM. Thoughts?

Otherwise, I can just store some stuff at BKK and take a carry-on to DXB and pick up my remaining luggage in BKK when when I return.

Second the question. We are going BKK-BOM on TG and then BOM-JFK. Assuming TG can check bags to final destination, is it a good idea? How bad is baggage handling at BOM anyway?

If you don't have a visa for India, you can't collect and recheck your luggage anyway, so you'll just have to pray.

I have no personal experience of int-int transfers in India, but my guess is that if indeed there is an interlining system in place, thousands of others have done the same connection as you without all losing their bags. I am sure some bags are misplaced, but does it happen more often than at LHR?

However, if you have less than say 3 hours for the transfer, I would say carry only hand luggage. In fact I would not try such a connection at all.

Interlining of bags at BOM is done manually using "bingo sheets", which means that the system tends to be more accurate than automated BRS systems at larger hubs. You can actually be assured that a human being will go looking for your tag numbers and verify that they are loaded on board for AAA compliance.

Make sure your connecting carrier (in this case AI) is made aware of your tag numbers. So long as you do this, your luggage should be fine.

Thanks for the replies. Well I have exactly 3 hours between my flights and I do have a Visa to get out if I need to. Hmm..i'm confused now on what to do, if i can get all my gear now into a carry-on i'll try that and leave the rest of the stuff back in Bangkok.

From your replies, one thing is for sure, if i either a)connect baggage through all the way or b)take a carry-on...i wont have to go through immigrations and all that, and will be able to catch my connection to DXB for sure.

thanks!
