As a Pittsburgher, let me say that this is a perfect Pittsburgh marketing opportunity for JetBlue if they play their cards right. With the Superbowl, Jetblue will have the opportunity to get many more Pittsburghers to try them. To be successful they will need to get their press releases out to the Pittsburgh broadcast media ASAP -- to beat anyone else who might be adding flights. And they should also be willing to add more nonstop flights with the Embraers as these flights book up. Price these flights at a reasonable price; make money but don't overcharge. -- This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Jetblue to introduce themselves to many people in Pittsburgh who have not tried (or even heard) of them. If all works out well, Jetblue should be able to grow their Pittsburgh market share and maybe even serve a few Florida destinations from Pittsburgh nonstop.

I dunno . Its not that many flights, US is underpricing them, and WN seems to be sold out already. its probably not much of an opportunity other than to use some otherwise underutilized planes. The typical Pittsburgher isn't going to Tampa, and if they are going, they probably already booked elsewhere.

The tv media in Pittsburgh will spend 15 minutes of their 30 minute newscasts for the next two weeks talking about the Steelers -- and anything vaguely related to them. The flights will be mentioned on virtually all the local newscasts today.

(P.S. - I just heard Jetblue's nonstop flights mentioned on the radio news as I was typing this reply.)

For one, some folks aren't looking to pay for another night in a hotel in Tampa. If the game's over by 10:30, that's a good time to head to the airport if you want to get home that night.

Only Southwest and Airtran (seasonal) have scheduled nonstops between PIT and TPA. US used to but they cut the flights earlier in January.

So far Jetblue, USA3000 and Myrtle Beach Direct air are the ones adding nonstop flights to/from PIT/TPA for the game.

Yes, I believe that so. I'm sure US needs to be stepped it up more extra section from PHX-TPA nonstop due to Super Bowl weekend.

so B6 is not running any flights out of PHX for the game? it would be a good marketing scheme to display it's presence in PHX. IMO.

WN has now added additional flights flights from PIT and PHX to TPA: http://www.blogsouthwest.com/blog/super-service-to-the-big-game

It was good marketing for Jetblue to be first to add flights. They have now been mentioned with each subsequent newscast/article as "also adding flights" from PIT to TPA (such as http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09021/943390-100.stm)

What presence in PHX? One flight a day to JFK is relatively nothing. There are three flights out of PIT at least.

Plus, PHX-TPA is a way longer than PIT-TPA which makes it harder to run it profitably.

My point was that to show at least they're there..and maybe people that need to go to the NE would fly them in the future?

I do think that a flight from PHX-TPA would have been a good idea. Though with WN and I believe US (again) it probably would have been kind of cluttered.

Just an after thought, has B6 ever considered connecting PHX to anywhere other than BOS and JFK? It is a major us city, surely there must be cause for even connecting to LGB or AUS. I don't know, just a thought...

Yeah, this is reason why PHX-JFK has been reduction the frequencies from 2nd daily to 1st daily only for operate on daylight flight. I knows it was reason why due to high cost of the fuel. Instead, B6 will expect to have reinstates to become 2nd daily in the summer 2009.

A 2X PHX-AUS would be nice. It would allow PAX to connect to JFK (an alternative to the red eye), BOS, MCO, and FLL. But, I'm sure route planning has their reasons why they haven't done this. They're probably finding that their research is showing the MCO/South American/Carribean expansion will be more profitable.
