I am looking at signing up for the gold card and I want know if there are any signup bonuses I should be aware of.
I am also considering signing up for the Choice hotels card to get the free nights and allow me to transfer out a bunch of points I have stuch there, would I be able to convert the choice card to a gold card?

Choice is a Visa issued by Chase.

Both cards and a description of their bonuses are listed on my website below in the Credit Cards section.
The Amex Gold is on my Annual Fees Cards page in the American Express section near the bottom. Current offer is 10,000 points with first year fee waived.
The Choice Privileges card is on my Free Cards page. Current offer is 8,000 points for first use, plus another 8,000 points for a paid stay by June 30, 2009. It has no annual fee.

If you do a little bit of google searching for the Rewards Plus Gold card, I believe there's a 15,000 point offer, fee free the first year, but you need to spend 1,000$ in the first 3 months.
I just got an offer in the mail yesterday for a pre-approved Amex Rewards Plus Gold card.
The annual fee of $150 for the first year is waived.
Also, I would get 50,000 Membership Rewards points if I charge $500 to the card by March 31, 2009.
It said I could redeem 2 free airline tickets with that.
I ended up tossing it.
Don't know if that was the right decision or not, but I don't see how a $150 annual fee for any card is justifiable. Plus, I'm only 19 (hehe) and it's funny they would send me this kind of offer, though I've never been late on any payments.
Did I make a mistake?

Did I make a mistake?
I think so.
50,000 Amex MR points for spending $500 with no annual fee the first year?
I'd be all over that.

You just tossed at least $500 depending on the redemption option.
This is one of the best offer available from Amex.

The $150 really isn't worth it for the Amex Gold card alone, you are right. However, the fee waiver and the signup bonus makes it more than worth it. You can just cancel when your year is up.
Haha. I guess I'll be looking through my trash heap. It'll be tough, because I ripped it in half (for privacy reasons).

Sometimes these are personalized and only available to the recipient, but there may be a more general code we could use. So, if you find it and once you use it, if you could post the info, I'm sure we'd appreciate it.

There should be a RSVP # and a phone # to call. You can just apply by phone.

I took this offer last year. Didn't use the card too much after that. With the 1 year anniversary coming up it was a simple phone call to cancel the card. Of course before that I moved those 50K points...ultimately 51,000 points converted to AC Aeroplan miles 1:1. So, yeah, I think 50,000 free miles is definitely worthwhile.
I'm hoping to hit 100K miles eventually to cash in for a free business class seat to Asia. I got the Starwood Amex right after I canceled the gold MR card. 10K signup bonus on Starwood (I think), no fee the first year plus another 15K bonus points if I manage to spend $15K in 6 months. The Starwood card has a tiny credit limit though of something like $5000 or $5500. I may try to get that increased.
I think BofA has an Aeroplan MC with a 15K signup bonus as well so I may try to get one of those.

Today I got the Business Gold Rewards card - has an offer for 25,000 bonus points you can transfer for Aeroplan and the $180 fee waived first year. Have to charge $1000 first three months.
I run quite a small business indeed, so that's quite a lot of points for no money down.
