California - Airport transportation ? San Diego to LAX

Okay...where is the discussion of this posted. Don't ever remember seeing any.

Wife and I need transport to LAX from Escondido (San Diego county), late evening on the 20th and return out of LAX mid Feb near midnight.

Super shuttle is $275 each way (less $20 Entertainment card). Prime time $191 incl. tip (special 7% off til 1/31). Choice seems obvious enough...but is there a good choice I am not considering. Rental car seems out because of the pick up time back home and too tired to drive it. Where is MRLIMO when you need help? Too late at night for a cheap flight (homeward bound).

Any suggestions. Will book sometime Saturday afternoon to insure service.

We rent a car when we fly out of LAX. You've got a 24 hour window for the car rental. Sometimes, we pick it up the day before. With a late night departure, we have driven up in the afternoon and had dinner somewhere near the airport before dropping it off. It's the same on the return home. You've got 24 hours, so it's possible to drive home, then a few hours later or the next day, take it to the drop off point. I'm typically able to rent a car for a one way rental for roughly $50. Gassing it adds a few dollars.
