Hello from a long-time lurker who has "just about" got his head around the DC redemption process (although some of you might not agree once you've seen my post!).

I am currently located in Baku (GYD) and I'm trying to get to Brisbane with a stopover in Hong Kong.

Before I put the question to the ICC, would there be anyone around who could kindly offer me some advice regarding the possible eligibility of the following routing:

GYD - IST (as no *A partners fly to Dubai) - HKG (stopover) - SIN - BNE

Are there any hard and fast rules regarding the allowable routings between desired destinations?

I'm aware (or have read) that "back-tracking" is sometimes not allowed - do you think that the GYD - IST sector might be considered to be "back-tracking"?

Many thanks in advance,
Regards,
GASUG

I think that you are covered by this

Back-tracking is not permitted. This means that travel must be made via the most direct route and travel must continue in the same general direction as it started, unless routing restrictions prevent this.

So unless there's something else available in the general easterly direction from GYD, there may be no other choice to get you from A>B

I agree with T_L.

And welcome to FT, finally, GASUG! ^

Thanks, Tiger_lily and GoldCircle (funny how you always miss something when it's been there in black and white all the time!).

I think that the routing from IST might be acceptable too......

I'll pluck the courage up on Monday and call the ICC for the very first time!

Cheers,
GASUG

*A website returns no routes at all, which may be good as there is no "official" best route.

EF gives TK GYD/IST then IST/HKG on TK direct, or via BKK, PEK or ICN. TK longhaul sectors are operated by 9W for the dates I looked at ^

You could probably go via FRA also.

Many thanks for the information and suggestions, dunk and K F.

I'll search around using the ANA tool and will try via IST/ FRA ^
