They're both companies that were started around the same time by Hugh Boyle - Zoom used to be mainly the heavy-lift airline for the Go Travel Direct charter market. I am fairly certain the two are independent - as now GTD still sells vacation packages and uses all other charter airlines (Sunwing, Sunquest, Westjet, etc). GTD has been selling packages in Ottawa & Montreal for as long as I can remember (10 years-ish).
