One of my recent rentals was rear-ended on a local interstate. The police report states that I wasn't at fault whatsoever.
Hertz had a replacement waiting at the local airport and had me fill out their accident form. Really smooth process.
Anyone have experience with Hertz and accidents? I inquired with Hertz the other day and was told that they would be the ones to contact me. I'm rather concerned seeing as how the RA hasnt been closed.

I hope you are uninjured.
The way RAs work in the USA, absence of fault doesn't mean absence of financial responsibility. You owe Hertz a vehicle returned to the condition in which you rented it. If you own car insurance covers that, fine. If you rented with a credit card that provides reimbursement, fine. If you bought the ueber-CDW, good for you. You will be reminded the responsibility is yours.

A police report saying it was not your fault really doesn't mean it's over. Hertz needs to be paid for the repairs, it will probably come from the other drivers insurance, but if they don't have insurance, if they somehow manage to convince their company they were not at fault, etc it could drag on a bit. Until Hertz is reimbursed for the repairs, I would not consider it to be over.
Indeed, Hertz may have no interest at all in dealing with any of that, they may tell you how much they believe you owe them and leave it up to you to go after the other drivers stuff, they rented to you not the other people.

The other driver was very apologetic and admitted to the state trooper that she didn't see traffic slow down. It was a good 4-5 seconds after I slowed gradually from 45-20 MPH that she hit the rear end of the vehicle.
She had full coverage for damage/liability.
The officer told me that he could easily charge her with careless driving, but seeing how apologetic she was, chose not to. Still put her 100% at fault.
The officer sent the other person involved away without giving me her insurance information. He claimed that everything would be taken care of in his report.

No kidding. I was sitting in the back of his cruiser after she had given her statement and he told her to go on ahead with the tow truck. I protested but he said it was alright.
