Hertz - Hertz Gold - Does it expire?

I signed up with a free Hertz Gold offer about 5 years ago. My recollection was it was for one year membership. It's never ended, just goes on-and-on.

My husband has now received a comparable offer. Should I sign him up, just in case my free membership disappears? Or is this all a marketing thing? Does everyone have free gold membership, that lasts forever?

There's some number of annual rentals (the very nice lady at the HLE I use from time to time told somebody she believed to was 4 per year) that gets you another year for free. If you don't use it up to that limit they may charge you to renew. I've never had to pay though.

Mine has never expired, including during periods as long as 2 years of not using Hertz at all.
