Hertz - Hertz #1 Gold doesn't give good deals in South Africa
I did quotes on both the Hertz South Africa site and the Hertz #1 Gold site. The South African site gives you an option for a new quote or to make a "#1 Gold booking" but that redirects to the US site and then you don't have access to the local specials. The rate I got on the South African site included Super CDW and Theft for a total of 6238 rand C Car. The rate I got on #1 Gold was 5709 rand but that didn't include the Super CDW and Theft, if you add that on it comes to 7867 rand.
The South African site doesn't give anyplace to put my #1 Gold number or frequent flyer program so I logged into the US site and tried to retrieve my booking and it won't come up.
I am not a "frequent renter", I really only joined #1 Gold because I am AA Platinum and got it for free and they are supposed to give 2 free rental certificates.
Your rentals in SA won't quality for any #1 Gold Promo so I would recommend just leaving your Gold number out.
Thanks Noah. It's just funny that Hertz SA has a link to the #1 Gold site on their booking page. Will I at least get the miles or points? Still tossing up between Priority Club and AA.

I suggest trying the UK site and not giving your Gold number. Also, don't fill in your country of residence (unless you live in the UK).
I did this when I wanted to rent in the US and got a price that was 66% cheaper than the price being offered through the Israeli office and 50% of what the US site wanted. It was also 50% of what the UK site wanted if I gave my country of residence.
I then had to call the UK number to actually make the reservation (and when speaking to them I did give my Israeli residence). I got the pre-paid price and the only problem was that I could not get credit for the reservation. As it saved me over $300 from what the Israeli office wanted, it was certainly worth giving up the credit and the price of the phone call.

You can get miles for rentals outside the US, but no Hertz points. Just make sure to enter your AA number when you make the reservation.

And keep a copy of the receipt, it may not post automatically.

That's cool, I am not a frequent renter, just on certain vacations it's better to drive yourself. I would be good to rent one car a year so miles or hotel points work better for me. Thanks!
