My family recently spent two nights at the Radisson Plaza Tahiti en route to Australia. We had originally been booked at the Intercontinental Beachcomber but at a rate of nearly $900 per night for an overwater bungalow. A few weeks prior to our trip I found a great deal (less than $200 night) for a family suite at the Radisson. The reviews looked decent so I made the change to save a considerable chunk of change.
We arrived to the hotel about 10pm after flying from LAX on Air Tahiti Nui. We had arranged for a shuttle which had one stop en route...total time to our hotel was about 30 minutes. Upon our arrival at the hotel we were met by a hotel manager who quickly got us checked in. He was welcoming and gracious. The lobby area of the hotel is beautiful. Lots of stone, wood and ornamental pools. The entire lobby and lounge are open air.
We were directed to our room which was on the 3rd floor. The layout featured a large patio/deck overlooking the ocean, family room with pullout couch and, in our case, they had brought in an extra mattress and had it all made up on the floor for our youngest daughter. The main bathroom was very nice and large. The shower doesn't have a door so you have to be mindful of the water, which tends to get all over the floor. Fortunately they had plenty of towels. The bedroom was at the back of the unit and was quite nice and large. A half-bath was located just inside the doorway. There's also a well stocked minibar.
Because we arrived late at night we could hear the ocean but we couldn't really see it. So, we went to bed. Early the following morning my wife and I got up and went for a stroll around the hotel grounds. It is beautiful! The hotel is well kept (though there are some places that could use another coat of paint) and manicured. There's a single large restaurant that is open air and overlooks the huge infinity swimming pool and the ocean with black sandy beach. The access to the beach, which sits below the hotel level about 10 feet, is easy.
The bay just outside of the hotel is surrounded by jungle covered hills.
The restaurant at the hotel has a breakfast buffet which is decent but, like everything in Tahiti, is pretty expensive (about $40/person). We did that the first morning but then ate a la carte the next day. If you are willing to walk about a mile there are convenience stores and a brand new, modern looking McDonald's.
In the evening there are lots of seating areas around the pool and overlooking the ocean. The wait service for drinks is good but leisurely. Don't expect anything in a hurry here. We found it refreshing and pleasant.
The pool is spectacular. Plenty of chaise lounges surround the pool and a pool hut has stacks of fresh towels for the taking.
The concierge service is actually a travel agency on the property. We tried to work with them but found that they just wanted to sell their pre-packaged services. We ended up using the hotel's shuttle service, which runs twice a day into town, and did our own thing.
In summary, the Radisson Plaza Resort hotel is beautiful. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to Tahiti. The facilities are very nice, the rates seem reasonable and the food is tasty (but spendy).
The shuttle service is good if the times work. The alternative is a taxi ride that costs about $50.
