Travel Technology - can I tether a motorola v195 to netbook?
So I just got a new quad band v195. I am wondering if I can tether it to a netbook and buy a sim in Thailand so that I could use it to access the internet?
1) I was given an unlock code - but it says to insert the new sim then enter the unlock code - works in the US - but does anyone know if it will work for sims purchased in Thailand?
2) do I have to get some kind of drivers? I have a motorola to usb cable but how do I get it to recognize the phone?
3) If I can do this does anyone have recs for data sims in Thailand that are reasonable (low) cost?
TIA

Yes you can, but I don't know exactly how to do it. I was going to do it with mine, but all the websites selling the cables said "software needed and not included" so I just stopped looking. It wasn't that important. I know there is software called mot2usb.zip many of the venders have, not sure if that includes the software to let your PC see it as a modem or not, or just the transfer software. Google mot2usb tons of places have it.
Any sim other then the one from your network (assuming T-mobile, I think they are the 195 is branded to them) will work to unlock. If you can borrow somebody's AT&T sim that will do it for you.
If's fairly straight forward to unlock, it was easy.

Motorola V195 driver. Install driver first then plug in phone to usb cable, then plug usb to notebook.

I saw this but wasn't clear what it does - once I install the driver will I be able to see ((and/or dial) the phone to use to connect to the internet - or do I need something else?

Once you install the driver then use new connection wizard to create a new dialup connection and select the Motorola as the modem. There are numerous web pages on settings for various carriers. For T-Mobile in the US an example is:

You mentioned a SIM card from Thailand so you would need to use the appropriate settings for your carrier ie:
