Thanks Jaymar01

I got it for $17.95 when I signed up for the subscription service (which seems to be necessary for the miles). I'll just cancel after my first shipment if I don't care for the water. $18 is not bad for 2500 miles and 24 Fiji waters...

totally off the mileage topic but I have to say I would never buy fiji water. It takes something ridiculous like .5 liters of fuel to bring every 1 liter bottle of water here to the USA. (I imagine that would include fuel used in production of the plastic bottles and shipping to and from fiji and of course the shipping required to move WATER from like 6000 miles away, to the USA. It also used nearly seven TIMES as much water in the overall production process than the amount or water that is ultimatly delivered.

I really like their recent ads in NYC, about how this was the best stuff of the earth, picture of the earth with a bottle of fiji above it. As if, using all that fuel and water to produce and transport water was totally irrelevant to the earth.

I know, I'm makinga a statement here that has nothing to do with earning 2500 delta miles.

Very valid concerns.

We do get Fiji sometimes as our local H2O is "treated" with Chlorine, Fluorine, Alum and few other wonderful things. The 2 stage filter we use supposedly gets rid of everything except fluorine and until we can get a r/o filter we will be getting a little Fiji now and then...but yes it does eat at us.

You are correct. Once you start listing your elite status in frequency bus/train programs that are so much more fuel efficient than the airline programs you trumpet, I will take your screed more seriously.

Until then, this will be consigned to where it belongs........

By the way, influence your elected representatives to remove the subsidy that such food receives when shipped from afar ( I believe it is taxed less, as well) if you are so upset about this. :td:

Finally, I will not take advantage of this promotion regardless of its cost benefit analysis because I think it is a waste of money, as well as because of enviromental concerns, to buy bottled water.

Tap water is fine for me.

Ouch ! This could be a bad deal.
Take away either the 2500 miles OR the discount
and I would not have signed up.

Hard to say which would invalidate the other.....
but the first page specifically said 2500 miles and $29.95 for the water..

This may end up a lesson in using unknown promo codes,

I have received no confirmation e-mail when I placed my recurring order for $17.97 per month yesterday. What's weird though is that I did receive the following e-mail a few minutes ago after placing an item in my cart and not completing the order (to validate that coupon codes were expired):

We recycle all of our bottles of water.

It is great to recycle, keeps it out of a landfill. But, the fact of the matter is that there is really nothing much one can do with plastic bottles, and it is more effort to recycle them than to reproduce them. Someday, hopefully, we'll figure out what to do with waste platics. Till then, it will just pile up -but not in a landfill.

Glass bottles are actually BETTER, but of course simply purifying water is tops.

Absolutely true, if you can filter your water well. Most municipal supplies have some amounts of major contaminants such as perchlorate, arsenic, lead and even trihalomethanes from chlorine use as a residual disinfectant.

Most of the commercial filters: Brita, Pur, etc. filter some of the nasties, but leave the chlorine and fluoride. (When you check the labels most will say they filter chlorine taste...a, gee thanks, that makes it all better)

Some of the better filters will get even more of the nasties and also the chlorine, but not the fluoride.

The only filter that will get out fluoride is reverse osmosis, but that uses aluminum and some people are reporting toxic levels of aluminum in their drinking water. (Aluminum is toxic and builds up in the brain)

The best combination would be some kind of whole house R/O on the way in and another filter in the kitchen for drinking water to get the aluminum out and re-mineralize and raise the ph of the water.

Yes, this comment belongs in OMNI.

This thread is about getting miles for cheap, the water is just a bonus (and worth about $4 IMO as I don't pay much more than that for a case of water).

As for plastic bottles, I usually refill my water bottles for the gym but there are times and places where it makes far more sense to bring disposable bottles.

Below is the reply I got from Fiji when I e-mailed them regarding the posting of miles a few days ago. It looks like they are still going to honor the skymiles offer for all (irregardless of the use of a coupon).

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but because this is our first launch of a promo such as this it will take a little longer then 3 weeks. We are in fact honoring the Delta Sky Miles so please be patient with us. I don’t have an estimated time, but I do know that we are working on the processing of these miles."
