How can I add supplementary cards on either my green or platinum card without using the SSN of the people I am adding? Thanks in advance.

You have to give Amex the SSN of all AUs. This is true off all card issuers I have encountered thus far.

Not true at all. I want to say I added someone online without their SSN but I can't be certain. Either way, it is certainly possible.

I just added an additional user on my SPG Amex without a SSN

Did it show up on their credit report as an AU, or was is basically just your account number with a different name on it? If it shows up on their report, they just may not need the SSN to attach the account to their name. I'm curious what the difference is if you can add AUs without a SSN.

I guess what I'm getting at is don't assume just because no SSN was provided, that they can attach info to their reports. Creditors do that all of the time.

I have added my sister to my cards by name only, no SSN. Does not show up on her credit report, obviously. This was 6-7 years ago.

There are also reports here (forget what thread) of people adding their dogs as AUs to get bonus points. I'm assuming those pets don't have SSNs. If they do, please tell me how to get them one, since I could use a couple dependant tax deductions. :p

Edit to add: For fun I just tried to add my dog to my Citi Platinum Amex - no request for a SSN and it will be processed within 24 hours. Don't want to try with my Gold Amex as it is being canceled soon anyway.

Not sure why you are concerned about giving a SSN....maybe you can shead some light on it. If it is because the person you are thinking of adding doesn't have the greatest credit, you might want to read this thread:

That's hilarious, did you get any Points?

Sounds like you're ok to go AutoCEO.

I was wondering this myself, but I didn't want to offend scubadu by asking any questions that would be considered "probing".

Sometimes us FTers have to probe to give people the best advice! :D OP can chose to answer or not. I don't consider that "probing" when I'm trying to help.

Thanks for all the help guys. As far as applying for supplementary cards, would the best way be, over the phone or on the amex website?

Well in my case it was because my sister was 14 years old or something like that at the time. Was giving her a card to use in emergencies.
