Not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I was wondering if anyone knew why the baggage hall at BHX yesterday was so chaotic? Long delays getting baggage off, then long queues at Customs, bags getting searched, usually it's grab bags and out the door and spouse has managed to collect you and get back to the Long Term Car Park within the one hour's free parking they give you.

BHX was closed for a while yesterday morning because of snow, so maybe everything got a little bottle-necked as a knock on effect? Doesn't explain any extra customs procedures though.

Customs and Excise appear to be running a fairly big operation at BHX at the moment. It was happening yesterday as well, they particularly appear to be targeting people off VFR flights who originated in the sub-continent.
I was temporarily stopped yesterday, I was asked where I originated from that morning, I said FRA, he said "your bag says SIN" and I smiled and said "SYD actually, but that was yesterday morning". He laughed and directed me towards the drug dog, who seemed uninterested.
Passing through the green channel, there were loads of people stopped and lots of cigarettes and dodgy looking food stuffs being taken from people.
