Is it possible to do "churning" this offer? I opened with 20k CO miles last May, and still has that chase account. It passed over 6 months, so I can close without any penalty or something. Can I re-open it and get the 21k offer again? T&C (at the Banker Instructions part) says " Certificate is good for one time use (cannot be used multiple times)."

Would you have to close your current account first? There's no reason someone can't have multiple checking accounts at the same bank, is there?

Thanks for the advice. I have only one job, only one direct deposit (didn't try to split, though.) And this checking account requires direct deposit, or multiple bills which is quite cumbersome, so I'd better cancel.

You can have several. Even for no reason, if you'd like. But if they ask and you want to have a good answer, say you want to keep better track of your expenses and keep certain things separate.
Or have one account for online shopping for security.

Indeed something has changed. They separated to two sentences.
Previous one:
Get another 11,000 bonus miles and earn 1 mile for every $1 in qualifying purchases with the Chase Continental Airlines Preferred Debit Card for a $65 annual fee per checking account or choose a lower annual fee option and earn 1 mile for every $2 in qualifying purchases with the Chase Continental Airlines Debit Card for a $25 annual fee per checking account.
Current one:

Previously they gave 11,000 miles even for $25 annual fee check card. Now I'm not sure.

I was able to open a Chase account by calling a branch in Dallas. The banker took down all my information and I had to fax over a copy of my DL and another form of ID. I received an overnight package to sign the signature card. The only bad thing is that you will have to go to a branch to deposit b/c WAMU branches cannot take deposits, but that is suppose to change soon. I still may have the banker's info if anyone needs it.

So essentially you do need to physically make it to a branch to make this deal happen? You were able to "open" an account over the phone, but could not fund it over the phone, correct?
I'm in the Washington DC area, & I was dumbfounded to discover that there are no CHASE Branches within 50 miles? Any suggestions for me?

I opened an account in NYC last September. Deposited a couple of hundred dollars and got the $25 debit card. I set up a $25 dd monthly from my ING account. 2,500 miles posted within about 6 weeks and then nothing more so I called in early December to see about the rest and was told they would investigate and get back to me. Heard nothing so I called again mid December and within a couple of days the other 18,500 posted. These have now gone to Amtrak and maybe one day they will show up in my Choice account.
WAMU is now merging with Chase and I got an offer from WAMU of $100 for opening an account with them so I just did that and I'll probably close my Chase a/c now and try and open another one next time I'm in a city with a branch.

I was able to open the Chase account online because there are no Chase banks in all of California. I funded it with a Continental credit card to also earn miles with no fee. I had to chat online with a rep but when he entered the code he said that he was not able to get it to work. I called Chase the next day , talked to another rep and got it all worked out. They sent me a letter that I would get the 21,000 miles. Even though I spent abot 2 hours of calling and steetingthis up it is worth it.

Simba -- Thanks for this hopefully valuable information! I have a few questions for ya. First off, who/what department within Chase was eventually able to get it "all worked out"? (& what dept. was not able to get it to work?)
Or is it just a total crapshoot with no method to the madness? Do you personally have prior experience funding Chase Banking Accounts with a Chase Credit Card? & if so can you indeed confirm that there are no fees of any type & you do get miles for the funded amount, (ie, its treated as a purchase, etc...) Do you know if there is a limit on the amount that you can initially fund using a chase Credit Card?
Any info would be much appreciated, feel free to PM me if you would rather... Thanks!

I signed up for the $25 card in mid-December. I received my 10,000 Checking Enrolling bonus on 1/8/09, and I have started to receive miles for my purchases. I haven't received my 11,000 post-first debit card (well swiped as credit) use bonus. My first use was a little after New Years.
Does anyone know how long that usually takes to post? Who do I contact about getting those miles?

In my experience, I opened account late May 2008, first use of debit card was late May or very early June. Checking account enrollment bonus (7500) came at very early July (7/2), and debit enrollment bonus (2500) came 1 week later(7/8), with another checking account enrollment bonus (10000) (7/10). Obviously not that fast, but all within 6-8 weeks, as they promised. So I would wait until mid-Feb, which is 8 weeks from your opening, and then call.

Just write a message on-line. When login, on the left bar, you'll see "You have no new messages" something like that. Click it and say you want to cancel all and ask to send a check of leftover amount to your address. Then they will close for you within a day.

I don't have the paper/coupon in front of me, but I seem to remember that it said you could open online or by going into a branch. just plug in the code if you do it online. can't see why you shouldn't get miles opening that way. I know from opening other accounts that you sometimes have to send in a copy of some id, like dr. license or utility bill; otherwise you should be ok.
One caveat however, pertaining to your concern about having to make a zillion phone calls - I opened a Chase acct (at a branch), and apparently Continental automatically generates a new one pass acct # for you, so that you then have to call (long distance, wait on hold) and tell the continental folks to combine the accts (your orig # and the new). Even worse, they somehow managed to generate mine with not only a new acct number, but a different name (not even close to mine), so to consolidate the acct i had to send all kinds of id and a letter and call from the banker, to verify i'm me. sometimes these things aren't worth the hassle. . .

Thanks for the post, & I understand you didnt have a coupon in front of you, but it does indeed say say right on the coupon: "It's easy to get your Bonus Miles. Print the Bonus Miles Certificate and take it to your local Chase Branch by June 30 2009."
& also under "'Bankers Instructions: 1) Only customers who bring in this origional certificate when opening a personal checking account..."
I'm sure it can be done. But opening this type of account online & receiving this type of Bonus is not supposed to happen, according to the Chase telephone people... I guess they have Online coupon codes/deals, etc & then they have Branch coupon codes/deals etc, & they are designed to not be able to mix & match because then one could potentially get 2 different bonuses on one account, or something to that affect...
So again, if anyone knows a relatively solid work around, let me (& everyone) know...

I decided since it had been more than 6 months (July 08) since I had done this deal last year (hopefully allowing me to close my current account with no penalty), to give it another try for this calendar year. For the record, last year I did eventually get all 21,000 miles even with the $25 annual fee debit card. Oh and I am actually using regular direct deposit from my employer.
So, over lunch I ventured into a local Chase. I was very open that I was setting up another account for the miles offer and that didn’t seem to bother them in the least. I lucked out and got a new(er) and very friendly banker to help me. The office was set up in such a way that we were basically looking at her screen as everything was set up. Since I already had an active account with them, it made things much faster. The system is clearly set up to allow the 11,000 miles from the $25 annual fee debit card. In fact when I was done, they even gave me 2 separate pages noting the miles I would be getting (once the criteria were met).
Also, there are 3 separate places that they need to enter your OnePass #. Make sure they do this. The first is in account set up and appears to give them the ability to show eligibility for the coupon codes later on in the process. The coupon code is entered in after the account is pretty much all set up. Once entered, it brings them to an eligibility screen which shows offers that you earned miles on in the past. The interesting part (to me any way) was that it only listed the 10,000 miles from my July 2008 checking account offer. The Debit card stuff must get tracked separately. A click or so later after specifying the account just set up, there is a space for the OP# on 2 separate lines. Once for the checking account 10,000 mile offer and another on the Debit Card line for the 11,000 mile offer. After entry, they click to confirm eligibility and then it shows the 2 offers as a receipt (pdf) which they printed out and gave to me to keep.
So while I can’t say exactly how many miles I will actually get without following up later on, I got a pretty good feeling that it is set up properly anyway. Last year I didn’t get to see the screen by screen process and was not given the kind of detailed receipt I got this time.

Thanks for the tip. However, I just hope, that "payroll" is NOT the only Direct deposit solution!
I did run in some problems ... have a business account with BB&T. Direct deposit is really a pain ... complicated process .... payroll initiation.
The I tried my personal account with Wachovia ... the "pay bill" set up doesn't even ask for a routing number. And "transfer" has a fee of $3 or more, which I would pay, if excepted by Chase as a direct transfer.
I have not checked my Citi account yet.
Somebody with some ideas...? What would qualify as a DIRECT DEPOSIT! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the link....it looks like it covers only "ING Direct, Paypal, Emigrant Direct, or CashEdge/ACH push transfers as direct deposits"
Anyway, I may have to come back and read the whole thread, which is pretty long.
Just now I am going to try an external transfer from my Citi Bank account to the Chase account ... at least Citi is asking for the routing number! ...and wait, if it counts as a "direct transfer" and I get the 10,000 miles.
BTW, the Chase Personal Banker was really great. He also used a "voucher" .. win a friend or so ... and both receive $25.... those vouchers are also in the package you receive after opening the account.
Thanks again^

Just got back from Chase branch about 3 miles away.
They opened account OK, at first with preferred debit card
although I had explained I wanted the $25 version.
The very eager Bank officer fixed that up (we'll see )
Took the coupon code and entered OnePass number.
Accepted $500 in presidential coins for opening deposit !
Now for direct deposit task:
am not working, so... I looked at the FW list,
don't see Schwab bank on there, so need another source.
Visited the Intuit 6-mo payroll offer, but it quickly errored out.
Any other current suggestions ?
edit: oh, just noticed FW post is 23 pages,
so I have a bit nmore reading to do !

Has anyone been successful in waiving the Preferred Debit Card fees?
Even $25 fee is eligible for (total) 21k miles, so I didn't mind. But somehow the Chase employee made another account for me, some strange saving account (forgot its name - work saving account or something), and I don't know why but fee didn't charged at all. No fee for other account, either. Now I closed that account, no fee but got 20k (it was 20k early last year).
This year I opened another checking account for the same promotion. I'm waiting for 21k, but I doubt fee will be waived again. Well, $25 is fine for me for 21k considering CO credit card has $85 fee.

My coupon didn't work on-line - apparently due to problems with the system -so I used it by phone, due to lack of branches on the West Coast and lack of WaMu coordination and hope that it will work - as I was assured.

With these debit cards, do you get miles for cash back taken with a debit (PIN type) transaction? I could see this being lucrative (though maybe a bit of a pain) if I take out cash to pay bills when I buy groceries.

Your Coupon is not supposed to work online & in fact is designed not to work online. Hence why it says "take it to your local branch."

No. You do not get miles for any debit transaction that requires a PIN. All PIN transactions receive NO Miles.

Well .... it so happened that many of the Chase "Internet-Bankers" I was transferred to during the phone-application process explicitly told me that the promotion was for on-line application ONLY and would guide me through the online process, just to get stuck with the code at the end !

Thanks. I saw 'debit card' and thought PIN transactions. You are correct it's only for signature type transactions.
What about the 2.5k bonus miles for additional cardholders? The T&C say this:
"Plus each new cardholder will receive 2,500 bonus OnePass miles. Please allow 6-10 weeks after your first qualifying purchase for bonus OnePass miles to post to your OnePass account."
So who gets the miles? Me or the additional cardholder? It's a little unclear.

I did a direct deposit from my Citi bank account ... don't know, if this will work.Well, my reading indicated paypal will not work, but ING will.
Opened an ING orange, got it linked, funded, and verified.
Try to link ING to this new Chase for required DD,
ING will not let me link a second account for 30 days.
This is getting challenging.....:o

In my experience, I opened account late May 2008, first use of debit card was late May or very early June. Checking account enrollment bonus (7500) came at very early July (7/2), and debit enrollment bonus (2500) came 1 week later(7/8), with another checking account enrollment bonus (10000) (7/10). Obviously not that fast, but all within 6-8 weeks, as they promised. So I would wait until mid-Feb, which is 8 weeks from your opening, and then call.
It is now past mid-Feb, and the 11,000 bonus miles for using the debit card haven't shown up yet. Do I use the form from the CO website for missing miles? I don't really know how I would describe the "transaction" though. Is there somewhere else I should go or a number to call? Thanks.

I believe its too early to report any problems, i would wait 60 days after opening, that 60 days sounds about right, i havent had a problems the past 2 accounts i have opened, and have received all the miles without reporting anything. I am 30 days into my third account for my miles to post.

I would call chase for that issue. Seems there's no other way but call and ask or fight if nothing works out. Sorry for being not helpful.

I did mine through the website, and as reported above, got stuck at entering the coupon code. I continued anyway, but was surprised the account opening process did not ask for my OnePass number. When I called to inquire, a very uninformed agent couldn't answer my questions whether I participate in this offer and told me to contact Continental Airlines! Wow.
Can someone briefly explain the steps? At what point do you provide your OnePass number? Did anyone open it online and got the miles?
Thanks!

I thought I would share how (and how soon) my miles posted from this offer compared to last year. They seem to have made improvements.^
This Year:
02/02/2009 Opened account (and ititiated DD from my work)
03/02/2009 Chase Checking Enrollment Bonus 11,000
03/04/2009 Chase Checking Enrollment Bonus 10,000
Last Year:
7/28/2008 Opened account (and initiated DD from my work)
8/25/2008 Chase Checking Enrollment Bonus 7,500
** Note that I believe this was supposed to be for the Debit Card Bonus, but I listed how it came out on my statement
9/6/2008 Chase Debit Card Enrollment Bonus Miles 2,500
9/8/2008 Chase Checking Enrollment Bonus 10,000
09/24/2008 Chase Checking Enrollment Bonus 1,000

The miles are posted separately:
- 10,000 for the Checking Account
- 11,000 miles for the Debit Card (No need to get the $65 Preferred card if you don't plan on using it, the $25 card will give you the same 11,000 miles)
- 2,500 additional miles for getting the card (this is not part of the promotion, but something that everyone gets - it usually takes longer for this to post, I would say at least a couple weeks after the 21,000 miles)
If you happen to have a Chase branch near you, some branches are willing you let you combine this with the $125 bonus found online. The chances are slimmer now, but if you are lucky and find someone to do it, make sure you have the enrollment confirmation pages before leaving the branch!
Additionally, you can always combine these with the refer a friend coupons.

From the chase website they say:
What do I need to do to complete the online application process?
Before you submit your online application, we'll ask you to provide information about the credit card or existing Chase checking or savings account you want to use to fund your new account. We'll also ask you to print a signature card and return it to us by the mail or fax. Your signature card will include all the details you'll need to complete this final step.
Can anyone confirm this works with a non-chase credit card and it counts as a purchase, not cash advance?

the online chat person did confirm that you can fund by credit card, however they said you have to redeem this coupon code at a branch. So I don't recommend doing this online since you won't know what kind of CSR you have to help you. And one mistake I made was I submitted the first part of the application which created a hard pull on my credit report. Then after I realized I could not complete the application I canceled it.

Hello everyone,
It has been almost six months since the promotion began. I thought it would be useful to find out if we are really getting our bonus miles. If you opened an account since 01/01/09, please hit "QUOTE" and fill in your answers (to the extent you have them).
BTW, I opened my account on 05/03/09 with the $25 ATM card with only starter checks, immediately began weekly direct deposits, got 11,000 bonus miles on 05/18/09 and 1,000 bonus miles on 05/26/09, and the $25 ATM card fee was charged on 6/26/09.
Lets hear from your!
1. What date did you open your account?
2. Did you apply for an ATM card?
3. If you applied an ATM card, did you choose the $25 or $65 card?
4. Did you set up a recurring direct deposit?
5. If you set up a recurring deposit, what was the first and second deposit dates?
6. What date did you get the 10,000 account opening bonus?
7. What date did you get the 11,000 first ATM use bonus?
8. If you did not get your bonus and had to contact someone, who did you contact and what was the outcome?

It has been almost six months since the promotion began. I thought it would be useful to find out if we are really getting our bonus miles. If you opened an account since 01/01/09, please hit "QUOTE" and fill in your answers (to the extent you have them).
BTW, I opened my account on 05/03/09 with the $25 ATM card with only starter checks, immediately began weekly direct deposits, got 11,000 bonus miles on 05/18/09 and 1,000 bonus miles on 05/26/09, and have not been charged the $25 ATM fee yet
I open it Jan 29, got the $25 card and all the miles plus additional mystery 2,500 miles showed up for a grand total of 23,500 about 5 weeks after i opened it and i did have recurring direct deposit.
plus i have done this promotion 3 times with all the miles posting

Other members have reported getting 2,500 bonus miles (in addition or in place of the ATM bonus). Did you get the "mystery" 2,500 miles? If so, do you know why you got the bonus?

One of my blog readers just sent me a note that this promo has been extended until 9/30/09. This link (https://www.chase.com/ccp/index.jsp?pg_name=ccpmapp/shared/marketing/page/continental_21000_bonus&ID=0000009014) confirms the extension.
My results were fine this year with a transfer from a Citi checking account of $11 per month to my Chase account and I used the $25 debit card and got all my miles. Some reported to me that it took the $65 to get their bonus.
Mods may want to consider combining this thread with existing one, but I felt the new opportunity was worth a mention.
Don't forget to refresh the coupon before printing

hopefully someone will try and do this promotion again this year, i tried opening two accounts in 2008 under this promo, but was denied due to a limit of 1 promotion account per year. maybe someone will be successful and i will try again, i am 2,000 miles away from a local branch, but will be heading towards one in 3 weeks

Has anyone tried funding the checking account with a credit card? I did an online chat with one of the live help persons a few months ago and he said you can do that. I assume it would count as a purchase.not a cash advance, but that needs to be be verified by somebody.

Friend signed up on July 2nd (outside original promo). I signed up June 30. Will post results.
IMPORTANT that you
1)have them link your onepass acct number at signup
2) get the two paper receipts; one for "10k onepass miles for signup" and second "11konepass miles for first card use"
According to most reports, you must sign up in person. Their online system now has a place to enter 'promo codes,' but this promo code does not appear to work. Some people reported success using a "chat now" feature and getting a CSR to fix the promo code. Apparently this is hit or miss, and can take 2+ hrs (only recommended if you are far from a chase branch).
We couldn't find the 'chat now,' either it is gone or doesn't show up, afterhours.
I believe c card funding is mentioned in the looong post on this offer?

I just opened the 25,000 offer yesterday. From what I read, if you already have a chase credit card then they just do a soft pull on your credit. I asked if I could fund with credit card but they said it would be a cash advance, not purchase. Anyways this is stilll a good offer one can do every year ! Probably the only "churnable" offer by Chase, no?

Paypal works as DD (direct deposit) for my Citi.
However, I read FW that paypal and ING do not count as DD for Chase (but other bank or brokerage account push should be fine).
I am waiting WAMU to merge in to Chase system (in California) in Oct end so I can open one and get bonus.

This same offer started out with a direct deposit requirement earlier in the year. But most recently, Chase uped the offer from 21k miles to 25k miles and removed the DD requirement.

The current offer (linked to above) says (in part) this:you must open a new Chase CheckingSM account with a $100 minimum opening deposit of new money (money not currently held by Chase or its affiliates). Also, to qualify for the first 10,000 bonus miles you must make 5 debit card purchases with any Chase debit card linked or used to access the new account or initiate a repeating direct deposit such as payroll, Social Security or other government benefits. The 5 debit card purchases or first direct deposit must be completed within 60 days of account opening to earn the bonus miles.
...
The second 15,000 bonus miles will be credited to the cardholder's OnePass account after the first qualifying purchase is made with your Chase Continental Airlines Preferred Debit Card or Chase Continental Airlines Debit Card.I'm not sure whether I need to make 5 debit card purchases or 6, but a trip to the self-checkout lane of the local supermarket for a few small items will take care of the problem.

I signed up for an account with the 25,000 mile offer on 7/31 and noticed that the miles just posted.
I'm a little confused as to why the two postings were 12,500 (instead of 10,000 + 15,000). According to the promo it should be 10,000 for opening the account and using the debit card 5 times plus another 15,000 for first purchase.
This makes me think I might have more miles coming...

I can confirm the two tracking numbers, one is for the bonus you receive after setting up a DD, the other you receive after you use the debit card to make a purchase the first time (swipe as a credit card).
Is there a lower cost option for the business card, or are you required to get the $65 card as well as make 5 monthly purchases on said card until the you can close the account 6 months later?

The 18.95 must be that you're purchasing checks (papers). They give only 8 piece of checks without address/name on it when opening a checking account. That's weird if they didn't mention. Paying for checks has become very ordinary thing in the last few years. All banks do that unless for very premium accounts. Annual fee is deducted like 1 month later (i don't remember exactly, though.)

Good luck. My understanding is the 15,000 United mile offer is the exact same as OnePass offer, just different airline. If you're already a Chase customer, then there should be no hard pull when you open this account. But do check out the fine print with the business account, as they typically have higher fees and stricter minimum monthly balances requirements.

I am sure opening them is no problem, but whether you get multiple bonuses is to be determined.. I am reading their fine print:
"Account opening and award of premium are subject to approval. Limit one business checking account-related premium per customer per calendar year. Attempts to earn multiple premiums may be voided by Chase, at its discretion."

We shall see; I don't see any fine print yet so I'm going to try anyway as I took it as you can earn credits for each activity, no limits really...As it happened I was in the process of moving my personal checking and business checking accounts to a new bank (in this case, Chase). By opening both today...after registering for the mileathon...I received a confirmation printout from Chase saying yes I qualified for the 25k miles bonus for each account b/c I got the Continental Onepass debit cards for each account. Then on the mileathon page it shows what the "credit earning activities" are, among them of course is "acquire a debit card from Chase" 20 credits...I got two...I'm going to apply for the "credit" cards, both personal and business.....hope to get 25k each for that, and 50 credits each for that...plus a few other "credit earning activities" and I should hopefully hit 150 credits and another 50k bonus miles as a reward. Hopefully it pans out; if not, on to the next mileage earning deal.

Now I am sitting here feeling bad for not being able to take advantage of this...:(
I had opened a checking account with WAMU in January for a $100 bonus. When I tried to open the account with Chase, I was told I could not open another personal account and get another benefit for 12 months (not a calendar year per the banker.) This is understandable, but I was bumping my head to the banker's desk. If I had known about this, I would have gotten the 25,000 miles rather than the $100 bonus without second thought.
Then I tried the business account. I was told that the computer screen asked for a copy of my Sch C/EIN/business license, which I don't have. Is anyone asked for this, or just me? I was getting excited to get 50,000 miles for two HKG-NRT tickets next year. Now I have to wait longer, or use AA (where I parked most of the miles) with the worse redemption rate. :(

Yea, that's a bummer alright...I almost did the $100 offer last month after seeing a promo with my mortgage statement from Chase; two RT award tix to Hawaii or Europe is worth more to me than $100...I had been on WebFlyer and on FT in this thread which is where I saw the 25k offer...I was just in the right place at the right time. Come January, I will see if there is another similar Chase account offer as I normally have a secondary business checking account also...if they have the offer I will try again.
By the way, the T&C for the Chase 25k Onepass offer says "calendar year" so try again in January if there is another offer.

Those w:rolleyes:nderful pe:rolleyes:ple at Chase managed to ignore the OnePass numbers I gave them when I opened our account. My wife and I recently received new OnePass numbers. I couldn't figure out why. Now I know. My account has a whopping seven miles in it -- from debit card purchases. I suppose I should wait until the bonus miles post before merging the accounts.

Even stranger -- I just noticed that my 25k bonus miles posted to the correct OnePass account, whose number I gave Chase when I opened my account.

Now that I have my miles, should I just close the account? Or can I at least turn off my direct deposit since it's a pain to get the money out of it? Will there be any monthly fees if I do that?

I'd also like to know the answer to this - is it 6 months that you have to wait before cancelling without risking your points, or only 3. I've heard conflicting responses to this before.
Where do you see 6 months? I don't see anything about the duration the acct needs to be open on the fineprint of the offer sheet/coupon.

Although it has nothing to do with earning/keeping the bonus miles, my "Account and Regulations" sheet states I must keep my TX account open 90 days to avoid a $25 "account closing" fee. YMMV.

Procedural question for those of you that have "churned" this deal -- is there a way to close the account without going to the branch? Or more specifically, when you close down the account and open up another account a few months later, what kind of a response do you get from the banker?
While there are a couple of Chase branches near my house, I'd have a hard time going to the same banker and explaining to him that I want to close both accounts (business and personal), only to open new ones a couple of weeks later.
Any thoughts? Gracias!

So, unless you're doing this in late December, you're not going to be "opening new ones a couple of weeks later".

I think the coupon explains a lot. When I opened my first account I started a travel dialog with the rep. and talked miles. The next opportunity I had to open another acct I asked for him-he remembered me and asked more questions, called his manager in and introduced her as a former travel agent and they both started suggesting places to go. When I left they jokingly called me their favorite points pirate :D
I'm going back next week to open the business checking and in January, hopefully another!

So I signed up for both the business and personal accounts, and the personal account bonus posted back in August. The business card bonus just posted to my account today, but I received 22,500 miles instead of the 25,000 I was expecting. Do the 2,500 post later on, or did I do something wrong?
How long does it take them to charge for the CO debit card?I was told it would happen mid-month the calendar month following when I opened the account.
Is there anything there to indicate that the 20 credits from a debit card can be earned more than once?
No. Actually quite the opposite.

Thanks, happy to hear I'm not the only one. It kind of makes sense, since the sheets they print out as a confirmation say 12,500 miles and 10,000 miles, so that would explain the other 2,500 miles.

Thanks coastalguy- I googled it and found some active coupons.
From what I understand, it is $25 for the personal and $65 for the business. Add another $25 in costs/fees to fulfill the requirements and it comes to $50 for the personal, and $90 for the business.
Is $90 plus the effort worth it for 25K Onepass miles? Can anyone venture an opinion on this?

If I opened up a personal chase checking account last year (because of the 20k continental promo) can I open up a second new account for this years promo? My old account is still open but I canceled the continental debit card associated with the account.
Or do I have to close the old account before chase will let me open a second account? Can you have 2 personal accounts opened at one time? If I have to cancel the account before I can open a new one, what is the waiting period before I can open a new account?
Can accounts now be opened online, or do you still have to do it at a chase branch?

Well what is the real value for 25K miles and what is the ratio for actual value? BTW, I was looking at people's comments and they have been saying that they received the miles after 3-4 months. This means that FOR 3-4 MONTHS we have to either:
a) make 5 purchases per month on each card (which I don't normally do, so I will have to send money to myself by PayPal??)
B) make a direct deposit every month (which is costly with ACH unless you have a salary to deposit)
My bank, Harris Bank charges $24/month for 20 ACH transfers.

Maybe the cost-benefit isn't right for you, I think in a lot of cases it is up to the individual. The better question would be how you would use the points. If you can't answer that question, perhaps you should heed your uncertainty and pass.
IMHO, there is plenty that can be done with 25,000 miles and considering the only outlay is the $25 fee (for most people) it seems like an easy decision. If I started getting into bank fees for ACH, etc, etc as you mention then maybe it wouldn't be so appealing.
In my case, the 25k will go towards building my account up to 100k for a biz class seat to Europe. But that's me and my goal/plan.

Just a data point. I tried this about a month ago, and I was asked to show one of the following:

- a Schedule C
Because I have none of these, I hit a wall for the business account.

If I'm not mistaken you don't have to pay the annual fee if you cancel your account before the year ends. So essentially it's 25,000 miles for no investment.
I mostly transfer the miles to Amtrak 1 to 1. For just 15,000 points you can take a first-class trip for several nights that includes all meals and accommodations for two people. So basically that works out to 7500 points per person.

Actually you just reminded me about the other factor: if you close your account before it has been open for 3 months, you have to pay a $25 penalty!
So you have to assume that you have to fulfill the requirements for at least 3-4 months...
Are you also saying that we don't pay the $25 for the debit card if we cancel the account before the end of the CALENDAR year? Where do you see this??

I was confused by this myself, so I called Chase and they told me that it varies by state. For the business fees, go the Chase site, and type in your zip code, and then look up the specific account. Under monthly service fees it will give three different prices (check safekeeping, Image copy, check return). The cheapest one will be the minimum monthly account fee.
I was told that the monthly fee for personal accounts is $6.

Does anyone know how I can fulfill the 5 debit purchase requirements for the least cost and time possible? Will sending 5 $1 PayPal payments (funded by the debit card) to myself or my partner work? If so, is there a way to set up recurring/repeat/scheduled payments with PayPal?
If the above is not possible, what are the cheapest things available for purchase online? Is it possible to buy things worth 10 cents? LOL!

I opened one last December and still have it open. Where do you go to cancel the card/close the account? Also, will Chase see that I closed one recently and not let me open up another one so soon to get the miles again? Is there a certain time period I should wait in between?
Also, I was dumb and didn't get all of my bonus miles last time because I thought you only had to use the debit card once or like three times to get them- not 5 times... I also thought there was no fee if you used the card 3 times a month, and then, I got slapped with the fee :(

Yes, you are missing something. The "free" Personal with Business account requires certain specific Personal checking account types. If you have the basic personal account, you do not qualify. Check the Terms and Conditions. Good luck and let us know the result.

pbd456,
In short, I think you are confused and not understanding.
Your post was not clear, but I will try to help you.
IF you used your Chase Continental Debit Card to make two credit card type (you did not do a DEBIT purchase that requires a PIN entry), then you have to CREDIT purchases. I believe you did this.
The value of purchase does not matter.
IF your account statement (are your referring to your Chase checking account or your ONEPASS account) (I think you are referring to the Chase checking), list something like this, "10/14/2009 Debit Card Transaction", and you did NOT enter a PIN, you did the right thing.
