I've just got my lenovo s10e today. unfortunately the store stuffed up the ordering process and got me the Chinese version instead. I was able to get a further discount from them and took the machine. I am fully converse in Chinese but prefer to english interface (as the menu items can be a bit different)
Are there any patch/software etc.. I can download to at least get some of the english interface back. Also will this Chinese Windows stuff up my Office 2007 installation?

Thanks

The Multilingual User Interface Pack doesn't support XP Home and it's also not sold through retail channels--it's only available to customers with one of the available Microsoft volume licensing agreements.

I don't know if this works for Home edition.

Normally for XP Prof just go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Option, click the Language tab, Details radio button, click Add radio button, click the drop down box and select the language. It may ask you for the XP distribution disc. Once multiple language had been added, a language switching Task Tray will appear near the normal Task Tray in the lower right corner. Shift-Alt will also switch the languages.

That controls what languages it will work *WITH*. It has no effect on what language it shows.

I have the Chinese language pack installed so the occasional Chinese e-mail I get will be readable. It hasn't changed the language of anything else, though--which is just as well as I don't read a word of it. (The e-mails would be for my wife.)

Thanks.
So it seems that I better brush up on my Chinese Skills!:D

Just wondering can you still install Office 2007 onto the Chinese Windows XP.

Also can you upgrade to English Vista or English Windows 7?

Don't know, try it though. Do know netbooks are cheaper here than in China.

I have Chinese Windows XP Professional (genuine) and can confirm that you can install the english version of Office 2007.

However, I have been searching without luck on how to change the Chinese interface on my Windows to English. Is the only way to upgrade to English version of Vista?

You can't change a non-English verison into a English one. The only thing is to have an English-version with MUI (Multi-Language-User-Interface) where you can switch between different languages.

I would just buy a original English version of XP. They are pretty cheap nowadays. Don't waste your money on Vista when Windows 7 is coming out soon.

It does seem a bit bizarre if you are used to a well designed operating system to learn that you can't change a foreign language version of Windows into any other language but it is true. I used to work in Tokyo and all our machines purchased locally would come with Japanese Windows. Fortunately I was part of a Select Agreement so the first thing I would do was reinstall the english version of XP with the MUI on top so that it could be used for anybody in the office (Japanese, English, American, Chinese, Korean). Why Microsoft didn't make that the default arrangement for windows I have no idea.

Maybe to prevent grey marketing?
