Travel Technology - What mobile apps don't exist that should?

Hey everyone,

I'm new here. I'm a software engineer who has been traveling a lot lately and it's really frustrating. I'm looking to build some software that solves a lot of these headaches, but was hoping to get some opinions from other frequent flyers.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? What would make traveling easier for you?

Here are some ideas I've been playing around with. Mobile is obviously the technology of choice, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

* A database of phone numbers for each airport/airline: lost baggage, taxis, nearby hotels, shuttles, etc.
* Maps of each major airport, with directions from gate-to-gate
* Notification of delays sent to friends, family, etc.

I have a handful of other ideas that I'm actively working on, but wanted feedback from other people. What mobile applications would you like to see? Don't worry about holding back -- even the most far-out ideas are worth sharing.

Cheers,
Jesse

Welcome to FlyerTalk farmerje. I am often looking for good apps when traveling and like all of your ideas. Would also be interested in an app that tracks ff and hotel points programs so I can have that info (# current miles/points etc., URL, password etc.). Other suggestions: airport info like whether free wi-fi is available, which Clubs are there and what the rental car situation is. Off site? How far?

In short I would like to be able to leave town and be able to find out easily on the go what the situation is when I hit the ground.

I use an iPhone 3G. Google Maps does the first one just fine. It knows where you are by using GPS and you just search for what you're looking for. Delay notification can be done on the airline's sites, I mostly use CO though. I have mine setup to automatically send my SO an email to his BB if my flight is delayed. It automatically does it for all my flights.

Pageonce.com can do that already. They have applications for iPhone and BB.

All this stuff is on the web. Seams to me that you can just bookmark the companies you use, or google airport terminal maps from your phone and easily get this.
