American Express Membership Rewards - Changes in baggage protection service?

I just got a fancy package in the mail promising 'extra care for me and my baggage,' aka the kind of talk that makes me hold on extra tightly to my wallet.

I'm not good with details, so thought I'd compare notes with y'all. Here are the new bullet points:

* "Your coverage now has primary status," meaning you don't have to wait for the airline to settle a claim first...didn't we already have that?

* Benefits paid are now the Replacement Cost of an item, rather than original value

* Coverage now goes to $2000 in "any accommodation where you are a registered guest"...is this a change?

* Coverage extends to a Domestic Partner or any children up to 26...

Guess I could go try to find an old copy of a T&C, but this doesn't appear to have changed things very much. Although I will say this: twice Amex has saved my bacon on flight-related issues, most recently when an aircraft at PHL belly-flopped onto the runway and caused five-hour flight delays, pushing my departure past 9 PM and allowing me to ask Amex to cover a hotel for the night. Which they did, no questions asked.

It's one reason I'm inclined to keep my PLAT, honestly, since I get super premium service on this whenever I'm inclined to file a claim...although I have naught to compare, since I never enrolled back when I was plain vanilla Amex or a Gold cardmember...

Are you a US cardmember? I thought for those benifits you were charged extra on each ticket. Lots of people think of it as a major rip off and I know of prior lititgation regarding over charge customers if this is the covergage you are describing.

I got the same package, and I'm Centurion. The materials very clearly state that this service is free of charge. It does sound like the old "premium baggage protection" plan though...
