Central America - CUN Check-in - Is there a way to expedite it?

My family recently returned from a trip to Cancun. The Delta Check In at CUN was very backed up. From what we could see, American was just as bad or worse. Is there any equivalent to curb-side check-in at CUN? We did get lots and lots of offers from Blue Shirted Porters to help with our luggage, but it looked like they just were going to the same line we went to on our own with a luggage cart. Do the porters have access to a faster check in line? Anyway, what is the best way to check in relatively quickly at CUN? Is it even possible to do so during peak hours? In our case, we arrived at approx. 10:50 AM for a 12:50 PM flight on Thursday 1/1/09, New Year's Day.
