Whan I began with CO 10 years ago, they were great about alowing infrequent flyers to upgrade, either by paying or just being charming:-) In the years since it has become very difficult.
I fly about 2 or 3 times a year. The one time I qualified for elite, I flew to London in January(first class), Hawaii(first class) and Florida in December. The first class bonus alowed the qualification.
My home airport in AUS and I fly mostly domestic but international every other year. I am a AMEX plat. member and have used and enjoyed the IAP offer as well as Membership Miles and Presidents club useage.
I presently have about 100,000 AMEX points and 60,000 CO miles.
One last thing, I am planning a 3 week RTW to Hong Kong, France and UK next year.
Sorry this is so long but thanks for all the help!!!

I think your trips are just infrequent enough to not get status on any of the airlines consistantly http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif.

That being the case, I would fly any airline that gave me the best priceline rate on a firstclass ticket when you want to fly.

Also, if you pay full business fair, NW will give you a automatic upgrade domestically.

What kind of advice are you looking for? Are you looking for a strategy to help you fly free on your RTW trip, or you want to choose a good RTW alliance for the advantage of your future travel?

Since you have AMEX, which can covert to Delta Skymiles, you can get a RTW ticket on skyteam. Check: http://www.delta.com/skymiles/use/skyteam/rtw/index.jsp
