Travel Technology - Question re digital TV conversion

So..... I have these old TVs, but I like them. On top of that, the PBS station I watch most (KSPS) is brought to me via a low power repeater, so it is NOT going to go digital.
The "easy" option is a converter box with a pass through, so I can still get the analog signal. Great, more boxes, LOL.
If I got a new DTV, would it be able to pick up the analog signals, thus eliminating the need for a converter box?
THANKS

If the new TV has an NTSC tuner it will be able to pick up analog signals.
Or you can use an old (or new) VCR to tune in any remaining analog broadcasts and feed them to a new TV that has an ordinary (or composite) yellow video input.

If the new TV has an NTSC tuner it will be able to pick up analog signals....and almost all new TVs have both NTSC and ATSC tuners.
Much as you like your old TVs, I promise you that once you go digital HDTV, you'll never go back.

It's just really hard to convince my wife to replace something that is "working fine," LOL. Which is kind of funny, considering that upgrading computers is almost a no-brainer around here. Plus she hasn't really been impressed with the flat panels in hotel rooms.
Maybe the one in the basement will die. It's the biggest one (whopping 25" ha ha). The one in her office is not a big deal to me. The one that bugs me is the one in the living room -- and it's a silly little 12" with rabbit ears, it's not even on the DirecTV. Then again, it's not supposed to be there.... We put it in as a temp solution after one of my knee surgeries, when I couldn't go up and down the stairs.

Plus she hasn't really been impressed with the flat panels in hotel rooms. Most hotel rooms with flatscreens are still running analog signals, which look just terrible. Here's what I did with Mrs. PTravel, who said the same thing: "we just bought that projection TV (it was 13 years ago, but who's counting?). It works fine!"
Well, last year we had a little spat, and I was pissed off enough to go out and buy myself a new HDTV, along with a BluRay player. Now, here's the ingenuious part: my wife loves Phantom of the Opera, so I bought a BluRay HD version of the film. She was not happy when she saw the HDTV but, as soon as I put on Phantom, she sat down and said, "Oooooh!!!! This really is much better!"
No more complaints and she even acquiesced to getting an HDTV for the bedroom.
So . . . what film does your wife like that would look great in HD? All you have to do is pick a fight . . . ;)
Maybe the one in the basement will die. If it's in the basement, couldn't you "accidentally" drop a hammer or crow bar on it?
When I was a kid, my parents had this big old Zenith 23" black-white-television. They kept telling me we would get a color TV when the Zenith died. Except it never would! When it was 25 years old (and I had long ago moved out on my own), my parents finally decided to bite the bullet, scrap the Zenith and get color.
