Is it advisable - i.e. how is the weather, etc.?

Am planning to stay at the Park Hyatt, which looks quite pleasant.

Thanks :)

Expect it to be very hot, but dry. I've never stayed at the PH, but it's in an excellent location for tourists.

March is the transition time from winter to summer. It might be hot, it might not. But there's a 90% chance that it will not rain.

Park Hyatt is quite nice. Expensive, but nice. Good steak at the One Restaurant (if you're looking for a steak).

March is when I go - I consider it excellent then. Why do you want to stay in an American hotel? - not for me!

Perhaps another suggestion Daawgon? We will also be in HCMC this March.
Dreading the 6 AM departure and considering finding a hotel near the airport for the last night.

There is no reason to stay near the airport if you have a 6am departure. If you stay in District 1, it will only take you 15-20 minutes to get to the airport since you'll be leaving your hotel between 4-4:30am. there is much more to do in D1 than out by the airport.

If you let us know you budget, we can make some suggestions for you.

Less important than the actual amount,:) is the type of place we are staying.
We have booked deluxe accomidations at the following places
Hotel Elegance 3 in Hanoi (suite)
http://www.hanoielegancehotel.com
Orchid Hotel Hue
www.orchidhotel.com.vn/
Ha an Hotel in Hoi An
www.haanhotel.com

There seems to be quite a range in the prices for about the same level of quality/service depending on the city. We are not looking for an internaitonal
hyper-global-mega-corp type hotel. Rather a more middle upperclass hotel for travelers than tourists. I use tripadvisor.com frequently to read reviews and found consistant reviews of good quality. Also it helps to read multiple reviews from the same person as to get a glimps of their expectations. As you can tell from flyertalk there are as many opinions on what is adequate as there are members!

Thank you so much for your expertice

I'm heading to HCMC next week. It will coincide with the Chinese New Year.
I'm heading with my wife and our 7-month old baby. I'm quite concerned about comfort of accommodation and hence I've picked the Sheraton Towers.

Any tips? It's our first time and we will be exploring the city and learning about the culture.

You might want to check out these hotels in HCMC (I haven't stayed at any of them):

The Majestic
The Grand
Continental
Rex

These hotels have been in HCMC for a number of years and are in excellent locations (they're all within 10 minutes of each other).

The Legend Hotel has a nice promo going on with the room being $169++ for the first night, then $109 for each of the remaining nights of your stay (includes breakfast).

Good luck!

It's also the Vietnamese new year. :) It's a very big deal. Sheraton is a great hotel, and perfectly located for the festivities. Nguyen Hue looks like it will be the hub of activity in the area, and is an easy walk. I'm sure the Sheraton's street level shops on Dong Khoi will be done up and have plenty of gawkers. Dong Khoi will be decorated all the way to Notre Dame Cathedral. Should be a nice walk.

Unfortunately I have to leave right before the new year, but the preparations are well under way. By the end of the week the city will be a sea of red and gold. My new bride and I will have to settle for Chinese new year, New York style.

Yes, the city is starting to look pretty nice (but the traffic is worse than ever). And you'll definitely enjoy the Sheraton (I'm enjoy the nice view of Nguyen Hue from the lounge on the 21st floor. The outdoor bar on the 23rd floor would be a nice place to watch the fireworks). They're adding new things daily. You're coming at a really good time. Have fun!
