Has anyone seen this movie? I know how it ends, as I read the book. But from some of the reviews I've read it's a real sob fest. Plus I have an older yellow lab ... so it might not be the movie for me. I've had problems in the past watching movies like Old Yeller, Turner & Hooch, etc. Have other dog lovers seen this movie? Can you recommend it? Or should I wait for the DVD?

I saw Marley and Me on Friday. It's a pretty good movie if a little sentimental. I also read the book and it keeps to the story and timeline more or less. The funny scenes are laugh out loud funny and the later scenes are very rough. If you have a yellow lab in declining years, it may be a little tough for you. The film doesn't pull any punches. There was not a dry eye in the house. It isn't in the same league as Turner and Hooch, it's much more real. I thought it kind of cathartic crying with 200 strangers. I lost a dog about 1 1/2 years ago and it brought back all the memories.
As a friend told me, if someone doesn't cry during this movie, they have no soul. That may be an indication.

I haven't seen the movie--probably will go tomorrow or Thursday. I read the book before we adopted Wonder Pup, and I finished it while on the bus during my evening commute. Those who saw me probably thought I was crazy, because tears were pouring down my face.
Glad to know that I should be prepared for that at the theatre.
It's not coming here until the end of March! Guess that'll give me time to stock up on Kleenex (I certainly needed them with the book). I don't relish the thought of crying in the cinema but don't really want to watch it on my little TV screen, either.
I've only read one review and that was by someone who hadn't read the book and wasn't a dog person and thought the movie was dumb. Glad to hear that's not the case.

I don't care about spoilers, so please tell me the dog dies of old age after a very good life. Don't want to see another "old Yeller" .
Thanks

Mr. Kipper and I have been trying to see this since it was released, and every time we're going to go, something happens. I'm thinking perhaps I'm not supposed to see it in the theatre. :( We were going to go last night, and after dinner, I realized that I'd left my theatre rewards card (yes, I know, it's really bad) at home, and the roads were already starting to get icy. We decided to skip the movie and just head home, figuring the roads wouldn't improve while we were at the theatre.

Per your signature, weren't you supposed to drive to the bar instead? :)
