Alitalia MilleMiglia - Lost Luggage

I was flying home from Frankfurt to Newark on the 22nd on connection from Lufthansa and Alitalia. When I went to Rome there was chaos,my flight was cancelled and my checked luggage is missing inspite of the fact I gave them the tracking number from Lufthansa. I gave it again at the JFK department when I did not see my luggage at baggage claim. Has anyone spoken to a human being from Alitalia airlines? I try to fax the photos I had taken of my luggage but it has not gone through. Hope for replies.

Unfortunately, those days a lot of passengers got stranded, especially at FCO, because of sudden AZ staff wild strikes.

Not clear to me: did you report to the AZ office in Rome or New York?
