Can someone provide me more details about this new division? I'm Gold, I know there is no board to look up or no Hertz staff to talk to. Do I just pick up the car key and the rental agreement from the kiosk? I also wondering what are the offerings that Hertz has in the Economy/Compact now at LAS?

Thanks.

Just back from Vegas and here's a review of our Simply Wheelz rental experience...

I booked online at the Simply Wheelz website about a month in advance. Based on the numbers on Priceline, Simply Wheelz pricing was more in line with the cheaper rental companies like Payless, Dollar, etc and way cheaper than the bigger outfits including Hertz proper.
After booking online, I just printed off a confirmation letter with confirmation number and bar code. I don't recall providing a providing a credit card to confirm the booking.

After landing in Vegas, we shuttled over to the Car Rental Facility where all the rental companies were. Hertz is located on the far right. They have about five kiosks in the Hertz area for Simply Wheelz. Just before starting, the Hertz clerk who was busy with other customers asked me if I had a Simply Wheelz booking. I suspect a number of Hertz customers were mistaking the kiosks for Hertz self serve.

The kiosk bit took about 5-10mins. If you get stuck, you can probably just ask the Hertz counter person.
You scan your bar code or enter your confirmation number. You swipe your credit card and driver's license. I think I had to type in a bit more detail because of my BC/Canadian DL. You get prompted for insurance. A screen pop indicated that spouses were considered free additional drivers whereas others would require additional charges. Had the option of having Hertz refill the gas tank at a price instead of filling it up yourself before you return it.

After printing out your rental agreement, you're given the stall number of where your car is. You don't actually sign anything as they are basing the agreement on a digital signature (ie. I'm assuming the swiping of your DL and clicking ok to accept terms). The Hertz cars are located up the escalators when you head right when leaving the Hertz kiosk area. It seems that the Simply Wheels vehicles are just getting pulled from the regular Hertz pool (though I can't say this definitively). What kind of messed us up was that the stall number provided was prefixed with a "W-" (eg. W-11). You just need to drop the prefix to get the stall number. A Dodge Caliber was waiting for us from our compact booking. Car looked fine except for some heavy scratches on the front and rear bumper which were already noted on the damage notation sheet. Key was in the car. Standard drop off your damage sheet to the person manning a booth on the way out. They'll scan the bar code on the car and can also provide a basic map of Vegas.

No issues driving the car around.

Car return was pretty standard as we dropped it off in the Hertz area and a Hertz rep greeted us. Didn't care to see the gas receipt. Gave us the option of paying with the credit card we entered in the kiosk or another one and then just printed the receipt for us on the spot.

Looking at a booking in LAS in Feb, Simply Wheelz offers about a $50 discount over standard rates at the normal hertz.com (using AAA for my CDP). Is there any downside? The only I could see is that normal Gold rental may offer better protection if they run out of cars, but I have never had this happen in LAS, at least not yet.

OK, so the other downside is that I use the kiosk to get the car as opposed to simply reading my name on the Gold sign.

Take a quick peek at the thread Mrp Alert references and this thread:

I suspect the main points are that it's very self serve and you don't get any loyalty points. It does seem like the pool of cars is shared with Hertz mainstream so I suspect SW users might get stuck with older cars or get stuck running out of a category.

Thanks! Missed the second thread.

Last month I rented in MCO and the whole Hertz lot was signed Simply Wheelz. I was doing a standard gold rental though and the experience was same as it ever is.

I do note that there's no option for points on the SW rental site.
