Hi -

After three bad car rentals in a row (the first two were dirty cars, but in my haste, I couldn't switch them, my fault, and the last took ages at the counter, even though it was fast break), I want to change from Budget to another rental car company.

Any advice? I rent about 12-15 times a year, usually for 3-5 days at a time. I don't really care about what car I get, just want a clean car, and fast picking up and dropping off.

Thanks,

Dont try Avis (their owned by the same people) - the service at Avis has been going down hill. Dirty cars, high mileage, etc.

I've used Budget and Enterprise, and have come to despise both of them. I have come to love Alamo, believe it or not. They've got kiosks you can use so never have to interact with an agent and then you get to select your own car from a row of similar class cars. When I have used an agent there has never been a hard sell of the insurance(something that Enterprise is very guilty of). And the contract you get has the TOTAL expected price, including all taxes and fees. Something that the others do not do.

I cannot say enough about Alamo. This past weekend they were out of cars and was forced to use Enterprise and hated every minute of it.

only place i have had problems with was vegas. they just suck there.

budget seems to be almost the best price all the time so i go with them.

I recently just got hertz gold with my amex, so might give them a try shortly.

I have only rented from Budget a couple of times but they seem ok. You can sometimes get a deal with them that can't be gotten with other car companies. Also, it doesn't matter to me if I receive a high mileage car so long as it runs alright.
