I've never been to Nashville, but am considering take a weekend trip (Thursday-Sunday) using a flexible trip through work, since I wouldn't have to pay airfare. I'm thinking of going towards the end of January. What is the best area to stay, what is there to do? I'd like to keep it cheap.

I'm not a big fan of traveling by myself for leisure, but I figured it'd be an interesting place to go for a weekend.

I've been to Memphis, Chattanooga, and Lynchburg (for the JD tour) with friends and liked them all.

I think you need to first decide what interests you want? If you want to check out the clubs, the museums, etc. - then stay downtown. Lots of hotel offerings in a wide budget range, and Priceline is an option, too.
If your interests are more in things like the Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's residence) or Parthenon (replica of the one in Greece), then you might get away with the airport area. It's really not that far to get anywhere, so it's a judgement call.

I'd like to check out the local bar scene and probably Grand Ol Oprey, Priceline sounds like a good idea.
