Personally I hate trying to figure out what the different booking classes mean. I haven't yet commited them to memory, so I rely on sites like these to help me out. Here is one of the better ones I've found that describes Delta, Northwest, and some others:

Great resource! Does anyone know any others? It's so confusing trying to decipher the convoluted alphabet of the different classes.

pixuk has a list on his VirginFlyer site for Virgin Atlantic created and maintained by Richard Mannion. Richard has just updated this list and it includes useful info like whether the class earns FF miles and such like. Well worth a visit.
