I don't see a newbie forum so I thought I'd ask here - how do I know what "letter" my flight was booked in? For instance, how can I tell if my economy class Cathay Pacific flight was booked in B, H, or Y?

TIA!

Welcome to FlyerTalk. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Although you don't see a "newbie forum" (whatever that would be), did you happen to see the Cathay Pacific forum? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Anyway, look at your ticket. Somewhere, there should be a series of letters (often 2-6) starting with a Y or B or H or M or some other letter. That would indicate your fare class.

Again, welcome. You will find FlyerTalk to be a very helpful, informative place. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Note to Randy and Moderators: It has been said over and over again, but needs said one more time. MilesBuzz attracts these sort of inquiries because it is listed first AND its description does not adequately inform posters of the acceptable/not acceptable topics. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, but I find it nice that these sorts of general comments appear here. I learn things, and I surely don't have time to browse anything close to everything that appears in the other forums.

Isn't it easier just to answer the question and move on? Than to have the ordeal of moving a thread?

Well, there's being a newbie to FT and having somewhat of a grasp of how airlines & airline tickets work and then there are the complete newbies both to FT and travelling, as this poster appears to be. While wanting to pass on the valuable lessons I've have the good fortune to have benefitted from while on FT, there has to be a better way to adress these types of queries from the completely uninitiated. Maybe a separate thread moderated by some kind FF soul with lots of free time to explain what classes of service are, etc.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, rdengineer. We're always happy to have newcomers. As a point of etiquette, we only post questions in one forum. We can post a link in a second forum, directing people to the initial post, if we think that's merited. I saw at two other places that you posted this question:AA (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum71/HTML/019648.html) and British Airways (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum15/HTML/005800.html). Now, perhaps you need the information for all three airlines in question: Cathay, British Airways, and AA, but that wasn't obvious from your post.

We've got some incredibly knowledgeable people here, and are happy to help. Read the forums for the airlines you fly, be as specific as you can in your inquiries, and we'll freely share our tips and insights.

Thanks for the information and the welcomes. I see that I will be able to get a lot of valuable information from these forums.

SanDiego - I guess I should clarify the point of those other posts. I was looking to book tickets online at aa.com and at britishairways.com. At each of those websites, I was unable to determine the fare class for the different tickets I was finding. Since the two websites are very different, I was asking how to find fare classes for each site.

As you can see at those forums, the answers are different. On aa.com, you can see the fare class, but in britishairways.com you can't.

Regarding CX, my question was how to determine the fare class after purchase - such as off the paper ticket.

Sorry for any confusion.
