Hilton HHonors - Advice on trying to maintain Gold

Hi all,
Sorry for for the newbie question but am trying to maintain my Gold HHonors, I currently have 20,000 base points.
I am going to be staying in the Hilton Tokyo over Xmas and New Years :)
My approx base rate cost for this stay will be about $2600 so with approx calculations, 26,000 HH base points. So giving a total of 46,000 HH. Need 60,000 to keep Gold :td:
If i choose the option in My Way Double Dip® Earnings Style Options
to be ¨10 HHonors Base points + 5 bonus points per eligible U.S. dollar spent¨
Do the 5 bonus points count as base points or only towards my Total points?
Thanks for any help with this.
Also if any one has any ideas of other ways of getting enough points to retain gold. :) ( other than the obvious spend more money :)

P.S forgot to take into account the 6500 i get as a 25% bonus for being gold. so total now up to 52,500!!

Only base points for earning status. The bonus are just for redemption.


Hilton HHonors Gold VIP membership will be awarded to Members with 16 stays*, 36 nights* or 60,000 Base points earned during any calendar year. A "night" is a night that is part of a "stay," as that term is defined herein. Base points earned will count toward Gold VIP tier qualification. Bonus points earned on Base points do not count toward VIP tier qualification.

Get the Hilton American Express card and spend $20,000 on it within a calander year. You get gold status for it...

To the OP,

Where do you reside and how many "stays" do you have? Depending on your answer, I'm thinking it may be cheaper to do some matress-runs before Dec. 31.

Live in Spain, but have my HH account in UK. Could get the UK HH Credit card but thought that only gives Silver?
Leave for NRT in 3 days, so not enough time to do mattress runs. Also don't have any Hiltons nearby. Unfortunately nowhere near enough stays only have 8 and 20 nights.
Was looking at worst case scenario, the fast-track program, just seems a shame being so close to base points needed!

Cheapest way is probably to get a UK platinum Amex card - automatic HH Gold for 12 months (plus lots of others, some indefinately).
