SwissCircle Dec 18, 08, 8:10 am Anyone have experience how they are on upgrades for Gold Elite (both guests)? SwissCircle Dec 19, 08, 7:18 am Also, I am wondering if the hotel is really that good, the breakfast, sauna and restaurant as people say in the reviews?? And, any sugestions on which club/bar to go after the fireworks? DawgmanOH Dec 23, 08, 3:50 pm I can't answer on the sauna and restaurant, but the breakfast really is that good. Fantastic breakfast for a hotel. The room was also nice (don't think I was upgraded) and location is hard to beat. Great hotel! SwissCircle Dec 24, 08, 3:56 am Good to hear. Will see about upgrades as we both are gold elite. JPH Dec 25, 08, 8:04 am Also, I am wondering if the hotel is really that good, the breakfast, sauna and restaurant as people say in the reviews?? Breakfast in Finnish premium hotels is most of the time quite good. In Helsinki, Plaza is not different from Crowne Plaza, Scandics, Palace etc. in terms of breakfast & sauna. All are good. For restaurant, I would recommend Demo, Olo, etc. over any hotel restaurant. And, any sugestions on which club/bar to go after the fireworks? If you are in Helsinki during New Year the challenge is that best clubs and bars are really full during New Year eve and you have to line up. SwissCircle Dec 25, 08, 1:42 pm Yes, we are there on New Years. Will have a look at Demo or Olo. In regards to Bars/clubs, I hate to line up and usually have not to. Will see how that works out. Maybe the concierge can arrange something. JPH Dec 26, 08, 9:23 am Yes, we are there on New Years. Will have a look at Demo or Olo. Depending what kind of food you like, I recommend checking these websites: 50 best restaurants (http://50bestrestaurants.fi/) (it is bit outdated since it dates back to 2006-2007, missing e.g. Olo and Grotesk) My best Helsinki (http://www.mybesthelsinki.com) (best independent and private english 'guide' to Helsinki, lists pretty much all good restaurants and nightclubs) Clubs: Really depends what you like but if you have VIP status and like other VIP people in upscale mainstream places, Lux (http://www.luxnightclub.fi/) or Teatteri (http://www.royalravintolat.com/teatteri/klubi.asp) or Mecca (http://www.mecca.fi) could be good alternatives. SwissCircle Dec 28, 08, 2:11 am Thanks again. As we like good food the guides are very helpfull. In regards to the Club thing, we like it normal, not to "posh, hipp, fancy or upscale". Found out that there is a big swing (Glenn Miller Night) at the hall of culture. And no, not that kind of vip. |
