Thai Airways will reduce Fuel Surcharge on 19 Dec 2008.
1. Domestic flights
All flight (except CNX-HGN v.v.) Flight coupon reduce from 700 Baht to 400 Baht.
CNX-HGN v.v. Flight coupon reduce from 600 Baht to 200 Baht.
2. BKK-RGN,SGN,HAN,VTE,PNH,PEN v.v. , DXB-KWI v.v. , CNX-KMG v.v. , HKG-TPE v.v. ,
GAY-VNS , KHI-MCT v.v.
Flight coupon reduce from USD25.00 to USD14.50 (or equals).
3. BKK-KMG,CAN,DAC,CCU,CGP,HKG,SIN,KUL v.v. , TPE-SELv.v.
Flight coupon reduce from USD45.00 to USD24.50 (or equals).
4. BKK-CTU,XMN,CMB,MNL,KTM,BLR,HYD,JKT,TPE,MAA,GAY,VNS v.v. , MNL-OSA v.v. , HKG-SEL v.v. , MEL-AKL v.v. , HKG-HKT
Flight coupon reduce from USD60.00 to USD32.00 (or equals).

Flight coupon reduce from USD90.00 to USD47.00 (or equals).

It's sure about time, with oil at $40/barrel now. They're still charging 700 baht per segment on the domestic system currently.

That would be good news indeed, and long overdue! The surcharge on the long-hauls is criminal, and I'm truly hoping it's cut (or at least cut down) -- especially since I want to use miles for Asia-Europe tickets in 2009.

Hi all
I have booked my ticket 2 weeks ago and will be flying on 1 Jan. That means I am still paying the old surcharge.
Is there anyway to get the money back due to this reduction?
I doubt but no harm asking right :)

Same with me.. bought my BKK -SYD tickets for Jan 1st quite awhile ago.. would be nice to get a refund LOL

I just emailed THAI in AKL regarding my flights in Mar 09 and if there would be a refund of USD 75, being the size of the tax reduction (quite a few beers worth....).
Of course, I wouldn't expect them to pass on any increases in taxes if things had gone the other way, espcially since I have already paid for my flights in full (needed to do this to use my GUP).
I have also asked about Gold Birthday Gift for 2009, noting that bad news is expected.....

It's a step in the right direction, but it's not enough. Last time I flew Thai (in September 2007), you could buy around 75 gallons of jet fuel for the fuel surcharge I paid for ARN-BKK-KBV-BKK-ARN. According to these reduced prices, you can buy 121 gallons for the fuel surcharge on the same route.
