Asia - Singapore & Hanoi over Christmas/New Year

Hi everyone

First post here after finding this amazing site.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for my upcoming holiday:

I fly (with Singapore Airlines) to Hanoi, Vietnam on 27 December stopping off in Singapore for 24 hours on the way there. I've booked my hotels in Hanoi but not in Singapore yet.

Any tips about what to do in either city or on getting a good deal on a hotel in Singapore would be much appreciated.

You're pretty late for booking your Singapore hotels over what's probably the busiest time of the year, so you're best off poking around last-minute-special sites like http://wotif.com. If you're not too fussy about where to stay, the no-frills Hotel 81 and Fragrance chains are acceptable.
