Come late April, we're off to Budapest, Vienna and Prague (then a few days rural Moravia). Do any FTers have "a feel" for Honors Stays (availability, choice of properties) in BUD/VIE/PRG (cities, not airports)?

Hate to say do a search, but if you do there are lots of threads re: all 3 cities & tons of good information. Going from memory, all 3 do a pretty good job w/ honors stays. I know Vienna does anyway, & thought I remembered reacing the same about BUD & PRG.

Cheers.

As a Hilton Diamond, we were treated very well at the Budapest Castle Hilton. Availability is usually pretty good, and the lounge is to die for.

Excellent view from the room, too.

Budapest Castle Hilton treated my wife and I with superior service on an award stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Prague Hilton (not the Hilton Old Town) in late November and loved it. The lounge and lounge staff are exceptional.

FYI, another thread mentioned the fact that Pointstretcher awards were now open for some dates into 2009. I just looked at them (after posting the link) and then saw your post so you might want to check out the following link because the 3 Hilton's in Vienna offer the PS for all of April. Hungary only has some for the beginning of April and I didn't see any for Prague. Hey...saving points is a good thing!

From what I recall from several years ago, Budapest Castle Hilton is indeed nice, situated in a beautiful spot on a hill overlooking the Danube. But be aware that the rooms are kind of small, many do not have the river view, it's a little bit isolated (perhaps a 20-25 minute walk up and down that hill, though part of that walk is through a pleasant hillside park) from the center of town, and the immediate area swarms with tourists during the day. Still, I'd recommend it.

Stayed at the Old Town Prague Hilton this past June and liked it. From other posts in the Hilton forum, it seems like many folks prefer the other Hilton. Perhaps it's a trade-off--we loved the instant access to the Old Town and walkable access to just about everywhere we wanted to go, plus it has a very good restaurant; but the rooms are definitely small (and ours was pretty much across an alley from another building) and the lounge is nothing special. Again, I'd recommend it.

By the way, we also did the Budapest-Prague-Vienna circuit during our June trip (though had an apt. in Budapest on that trip and stayed at a Starwood property in Vienna). It's a great combo. We also did a couple of very nice days in Krakow, Poland, which was our second favorite city after Prague. FWIW, Krakow is another old central European city, but is smaller than the others and has a younger feel (which nevertheless appealed to us despite our middle age!) since it's something of a university town.

Happy trails!

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I was pleasantly surprised to book a "Point-Stretcher" stay at the Prague Hilton for July 2009.

We must have lucked out on the room end. We had just about the biggest room we've ever had in any of the Hiltons we've stayed. It had basically 3 levels. First level had the living room with a small kitchen off to the side (microwave/refrigerator in a small room), you walk up a half a set of steps where there was a dining room area, and then you walk up the other half a set of steps where the bedroom and bathroom were. We LOVED this room and were there for 10 nights. We also loved the location. We walked everywhere....we also had a fabulous private guide for 4 or so of the days and she was AWESOME. We wouldn't do it any other way.

If you want to see pictures, pm me and I will send you our pictures from this trip. Budapest is one of our favorite places to visit.

In early December, we spent 4 nights at the Stadtpark on an award. We were upgraded to a fabulous (not to mention large) room on the top floor w/a balcony from which you could see the entire city. They treated us magnificently from the beginning to end of our trip. At 30K/points per night, this hotel has to be one of the best in the system in terms of a point to quality ratio.

Edited to Add: There are point stretcher awards available in April for this property - making it an even better deal

Good thumbnail compare-and-contrast! ^

We stayed at both Prague properties a few months ago and vastly prefer the Prague Hilton to the Old Town but YMMV.
